Hi all, wonderful site and forums tons of good info.
i did some perusing about the question, couldnt find an answer.
i did the QTB mod on my strat copy. i get a ton of buzz now, except when i touch the imput jack. i checked and tripled check wiring and everything looks good. i took out the big cap a couple times after doing some resoldering to make sure i got it right and still a nasty buzz. the only thing i havent done yet is insulate the pickup springs from the foil shielding, could that have some sort of effect on it?
thanks in advance.

tory, Hi, and welcome to the NutzHouse! ;D No, the pickup springs won't cause what your hearing, hum-wise. The clue is, when you touch the output jack (there's nothing coming into the axe), the hum dies down. This says to me that the connection between the jack's outer sleeve (the ground connection), and the rest of the circuitry is not quite up to snuff. I know you looked at it, but here are two questions/suggestions. One, have a friend look at it....... you might be surprised at how hard it is to discern mistakes in your own work, yet someone else sees them right away. (It's called the "forest and trees" effect. ) Two, did you use a multimeter set to the lowest Ohms range? Sometimes things look good, but the meter tells a different story. A cold solder joint will kill everything in a heartbeat, yet to the untrained or inexperienced eye, it looks just like any other good solder joint. Only a meter will sniff this out for you. When all is said and done, whenever you're scratching your head in a WTF like this, it's either a bad solder joint or a completely missing (forgotten) connection. That's why I advocate both the meter and a friend. HTH sumgai

yeah i dug the meter out and started metering out my connections last night, our bass player stopped over and laughed at my rats nest of wire so i said to hell with this. Gonna strip it down and rewire the whole thing from scratch hopefully cleaning it up.
the friend idea was probably the best one for me. ill post pics after im done for some critiquing. thanks!

I had the same problem my first time and it was because I left out a wire connecting the bridge to ground! Since all the other wires were correct, I couldn't find a problem.
