vF, I'm loving the Jazz III. That's all I've used for a couple years now. Every once in a while a Jazz I gets slipped into my jar of picks, and I feel like I'm playing in sand for a couple seconds before I toss it into the wind.

There seem to be fewer Jazz III users here than most places, but I'm yet another. I started using black 'Stiffo' Jazz IIIs around 15 years ago and have never strayed far. For a few years I used the original Ultex Jazz IIIs, briefly went all boutique with Red Bear Lil' Jazzers in heavy gauge, but not having the kind of budget that would allow me to blow $20 on single RBs, I returned to Dunlop and now use the Petrucci Jazz IIIs. I think I actually prefer them even to RBs. They're a bit difficult to find for some reason, and there are lots of scammers who sell them as "limited edition" items, but you can get a six-pack on eBay for cheap. They're made of Ultex but the tips, which are a little sharper than other Jazz IIIs, are polished smoother than classic Stiffos. The most dramatic improvement, however, is the JP logo that serves as a grip for your thumb. I used to make my own grips by marring my picks briefly with a solder iron, but no more They also last a very long time. Tip: Use micromesh or a multi-sided throwaway nail file to polish your picks before you use them and every once in a while afterward to take care of wear. They'll last a long time if kept smooth. If your pick shows wear and you don't maintain it, the pick will decline at an accelerating rate thereafter. Think of a knife with a burr that keeps getting caught on things and, as a result, causes more and more damage to the blade.

Red is Dunlop Jazz II to the right is a Jazz III, Dunlop Tortex Pitch Black 1.14, Dunlop Tortex Pitch Black Jazz III. The 1.14 when I'm playing more CCR style stuff. The Jazz picks are for everything else. when i was playing in Univ, i was exclusively using those Jazz III, now mostly :
