Here is what mine would look like: www.gibsoncustom.com/flash/products/es/137classic/137_classic.htmlI would be semi hollow. The right half for inbuilt effects and Controls, the left hollow fit with an extra internal pick up. I would fit in 3 Gold Humbuckers (like of the black beauty), And a plain Tail piece and tremolo. And probably fit a White Pick-guard and change all hardware to gold. And change the 3 way switch and put it near the contols I would also fix one of those electronic Tuners (but put the LED display on the top (under binding) It would also have: 2 Tones, 2 Volume, 1 Effect Volume (all knobs), Gain A Switch (like of LP) between a clean and distorted mode, Many smaller on/off switches (similar to LP NOT brian May type) for: 1) Solo Effect (signature of solo) 2) Phaser 3) Bubble Effect/Cry baby or something 4) Chorus 5) Echo and Reverb 6) etc.. Some of These would be individual Stomp boxes fit into the guitar and adapted for a switch instead of a stomp. And a Digitech or similar 'computer' which controlled: 1) Tuning 2) From where you could modify the effects mentioned above (example modify the amount of treble vs Bass in the solo switch effect) 3) Contained another 40 Preset effects 5) A simple Control of 1-5 and 1-10 , 1-5 being the 5 switches 1-10 being how much they contributed to the main effect (Clean/Distorted) -- The Effects System would work that the Clean/Distortion Switch would be the main switch, the other 5 switches could be put on altogher, or mixed to achieve the desired effect. And also a hand wah wah handle (liek a tremolo arm) --- I would also install an optical fibre light in the neck (3 tubes in all) 1 in middle at the back. and 2 on each side which would continue thill the headstock. where they would reflect onto the shiny heads , I would also install a very bright light in the holllow compatment (this would change colour (mainly White ,Yellow, Red , Violet , Orange and Blue Light) The optical ficres together with the light in the comartment would be hooked up to a system which detected the sound waves and administered the light according to what i will be playing (sort of like I-Tunes makes its effects work. You would be able to set the mood Ex: If playing 'Wish You Were Here' The Guitar would give a light warm light which changed colour slowly and would be less sensitive to the guitarist , or you would set it to pick up and animate evry not, sole whilst you are playing sweet child-omine you will dazzle your audience. --- Conclusion: This is just a dream of mine. I wouldn;t even have a clue from where to start setting up this system bit to me it sound prety cool (Expensive and heavy) In reality it may seem (far fetched) but most of the ideas i mentioned already exist, maybe just not in one compact amazin thing.

I don't think I could ever narrow it down to one guitar, there's so much to like about so many that the features just can't possibly crossover into one axe. Now if you asked: "What would be in your ultimate guitar STABLE?"......
Just a sidebar: I've only been here for a little while, but it seems these kind of opinion threads just don't seem to do well here. This is not your typical message board.

I have two...
Fender Stratocaster ...circa/late 60's early 70's
Gibson Les Paul ...circa/early 60's but with a newer slimmer neck.
To me its pointless to make new guitars. I love these two models, and everyone else just trys to imitate them...in one way or another.
They only thing about Fender & Gibson right now is, that they had better pull up their socks and not rely on their reputation and name. Dont cut corners.

I love these two models, and everyone else just trys to imitate them...in one way or another. to be honest, i rather think, original les paul and strat are waaaaaaaaay outdated - there is so much about them that could be done better - and is done better by various manufacturers. better bridges, better neck joints, better shapes and so on. gibson and fender were pioneers of electric guitar and innovative back then, but nowadays they seem just to recycle their old models over and over and the only reason that they are still successfull is that most guitarists are so conservative about their gear. don't believe me? look at bass guitars. now that is a sector which doesn't shun innovations. very often when i look at bass guitars i wish they would make them also with 6 strings and an octave higher, if you see what i mean.

;D 24" actually, but i know only of two guitars with 24" scale, brian may signature and jagmaster. cannot afford the former, don't like the latter.

True, these are amazing axes, and they do copy them an awful lot, but to say that they should not make new models is ridiculous. Don't get me wrong, these are fine instruments, which set the bar high for all others, but there not for everybody. For example, many people like deeper cutaways then a strat can provide, others think that PAF's don't have enough output, and more still like the sustain of a neck-through guitar. LP's and Strat's are fine for some people, but there not for everybody.

I am a fan of the new developments in guitars, I own an Ibanez myself, but no matter how much development that is made (higher output pickups ect), I have never heard anything better than the classic sounds (brian may, hendrix, slash's LP)

My ultimate guitar would be a Gibson CS-356 with better access to the high notes on the fretboard, a 23 1/2" neck (like on the Gibson Byrdland), thinner body, Jackson Speed neck, compound radius (16" at the nut and 10" at the body), middle mini-humbucker, phase inverting switches, series/parallel switch and tone and volume pots for each pickup. Lastly... painted gold.

At this time, my ultimate guitar would be something in the line of the line 6 variax but with the following modifications and features: - 24" scale - physical feature - 24 frets - physical feature - ability to pick and choose different pickups - via emulation - in various models (this could be implemented and loaded via variax workbench) - in correlation to above, one of pickups to be trisonic (I like a certain May artist ) - addition of 3 3-way mini toggles (programmable via workbench) More later perhaps if I think of it

Ibanez RG style but neck through, maple neck & fretboard, 29 #6000 frets, H/S pickups (neck would be slanted), DiMarzio Super 3 bridge/JB Jr. neck, Edge LoPro trem, gun metal gray hardware. The body wings, probably Alder.

There's a post from times past on the Line6 forum by a guy that added in a Roland hex pickup and electronics into a Variax 500 (same as I have) and had the best of both worlds. This was before the (much belated) arrival of the Workbench.
If you get a Warmoth Variax compatible body, you can add in magnetic pickups as well.
Having 3-way toggle switches might be an issue if you want the workbench to work with them. If you want to use unk's Brian May switching, you'd be able to add that as well to 3 pickups.

Well, right now, I'm looking at: Baritone neck: compound radius, ebony on wenge or rosewood (ebony headstock), thin profile. I'd love it if it was neck-through. Warmoth "VW" style body swamp ash veneer on mahogany Dark Blue transparent w/ black burst-over string-through Black hardware and pups (Duncan '59 neck, custom bridge) wiring: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=wiring&action=display&thread=1180267662with a concentric pot for vol and tone, plus three toggles and the 5-way. All this for only $1,376.18

Perhaps not to everyone's taste, but this one - Teuffel Birdfish Choice of 5 pickups, up to 3 at a time in any position. Different wooden resonators for different sounds. Piezo bridge and midi option. Unfortunately not available lefthand, otherwise I'd be saving up right now !

Well how about this one ? - I have a 6 string lefthanded version. One of Mr Teuffel's more "conventional" designs - The Tesla

My ultimate guitar??
A 1954 Stratocaster. Modified by Jesus Christ so that it doesn't break strings, make noise or go out of tune.
I would pay handsomely.

It would be hard to come up with just one but it would be a vintage style Tele, swamp ash body, and a set of Don Mare 2324 pups...that would come close!

Right now, I think I have it. A 1982 Electra X155. Butt ugly headstock, with a solid maple body, kind of a bad strat copy. But incredible action, great pickups, with coil taps and phase, in a really cool yellowed pearl finish! All for $79.00. Pawn shops rule!!!!!

Today I played (well saw one for the first time at that) a Rickenbacker. Early 80's 350, 3 pickups and a Bigsby. It was one wierd guitar. The fretboard was about an inch and a half off the body, there were 24 frets and easy access to all of them. The fretboard was lacquered over. The wiring is even weird. Its the standard Les Paulesque wiring but the middle pickup had a volume knob and was entirely independent. On top of that natural to purplish/redish sparkle. All that for 800 bucks. That was my second favorite guitar until today.
