American Strat vs Import vs Squier

I'd go with the American Strat. You might have an easier time with parts if you're planning on modding a lot. The Squires vary a lot in shape and pickguards because they're made in so many different places. And custom pickguards are expensive. I know because I'm trying to get a replacement for an older MIJ Squire Bullet. Some places are looking at charging $75 plus shipping. Yikes.

Now the newer ones look to be identical to the Strat shape. You'd have to double check that.
