Not much action going on around lately and I love to look at people's guitars. Figure I'll try to get others to join in. This is my black beauty. A Squier Strat I picked up for about $120. The cavities and pickguard are copper shielded and the switch, pots and pick-ups are stock. On this one I went after better tone by installing a mini on/off switch. Guitar was not playable out of the box. Intonation was off and the strings, terrible, dark, and old looking.

Unfortunately the only black guitar I had is in the process of turning red. Was an old Behringer I picked up at a pawn shop......changed the pups, and tuners to the ones that were on my Am Std strat that was Olympic White, but is now surf green.......Anyway, if former black axes qualify, I'll post some pix when its done in a couple weeks. Here's my offering. It's a Sojing silent guitar. It looks pretty cool, and only cost me £70, but it's fairly horrible to play :-( The action is stupidly high (and can't be changed), the frets are horrible (though they could be changed), the active pickup is horrible and doesn't give an even signal across the strings. Bit of a disaster really...

...It looks pretty cool, and only cost me £70... if you can retrofit a decent bridge and pickup, cool. if not , you still have £70 worth of "art" to hang on your wall. kinda strange looking bird, but unkl S. likes it anyway.

Apalling! *sigh* I suppose I could potentially get a new bridge for it, but that seems like too much bother for a rather naff guitar. Think I'll take Unk's suggestion and hang it on the wall! :-D

thanks, i'll add that one to my vocabulary. remember, just because it's rubbish, doesn't necessarily mean it's not art. then again, it doesn't necessarily mean it is. .. unk

....but which side of the argument was the picture sposed to represent? Art or rubbish?.... Bob we know it's rubbish, but the question is: art or not art? i guess, if one has to ask, it was at least an "artful" use of the photo! the whole concept of rubbish as art, is filled with controversy. it causes people to rethink, what IS art? and come, as they should, to their own conclusions. unk

Bit of a disaster really... I have a sojing exactly like that i got for around £70 too!, But it is the Acoustic version (ie: Brown) As you already said it sucks but hey, for only £70. A Relatively easy modification would be to put the bridge firther away to increase the action. Apart from that it is art

^ I like it. The Headstock is just okay. But the rest of it looks like a LP-DC, but with the selector mounted on the upper bout, like a SC.
I made a rack like that for my dorm-room when I was in the military. It was similar, but had spaces for 9 guitars. I only had 5 at the time. Wishful thinking is.

This is, well WAS my metal monster. Its my neck thru body Jackson Randy Rhoads. I took out the stock pups and had EMG's installed. EMG 81 bridge, and EMG 85 neck, if my memory serves me right. It was an amazing heavy shredding guitar. But as my tastes changed, I mellowed out and just strictly used my Strats. Still have the old pups though!....sorry about the wood finish rec-room...The 70's were great huh?

I actually am in the minority here, since I despise black guitars. (Fingerprints and all that, besides they are just sooooo bloody common.) But here are the few that I do own. This Samick 335 clone has a varitone switch from Big D on eBay, and works quite well! The neck is a mini hum from a cat on eBay, and the bridge pickup is an 80's Duncan taken from an old Kramer. A Rickenbacker 4003 stereo. Need I say more? A Squire from China I paid a whopping $40.00 for. It even came with the Carvin AP11 pickups, and the black pickguard!

ccs has too much money! and no doubt the LP is the heaviest, if anyone has ever played one thats obvious. I don't own any black guitars yet, though I will eventually. Im so into 3 tone sunburst fenders and quilted finishes it might be a while before I can significantly add to this thread.but eventually, I'll find the perfect flat black guitar and win this thread ages after it was started.
That is a promise.

This is the latest project to become a player. However, I finished it before I found G Nutz, so it's all coming apart soon to get the full QtB treatment, who knows, maybe a four way switch, too. Right now, it's hard to see in the pictures 'cause it's all black except the neck. But this is my "E-type", sporting a single dual-rail pickup, w/ vol, tone, and coil split on the switch.

Well, I guess it's about time. They all need some serious lemon oil treatment. Unfortunately, they live at the studio, which is called Five Miles From Nowhere for a reason. When I'm there I'd much rather be playing then cleaning. The Strat is my 3 Humbucker, no Pots guitar, which apparently I wired over a year ago...where does time go? Kind of hard to tell, but the LP has tele-style chrome knobs and the 3 way has been replaced by a 2P5T rotary that gives an "all off" and a series position. The Rick is curently stock, including the intermittent connection to the Neck pickup from which it's suffered since '94... The mando is acoustic, for now...
