Hi guys! I´m looking for a "P" pickup for a 5 string Washburn bass. But I got one doubt... Can I use any P pickup, or it has to be especifically for a 5 string bass? I ask these because I´m cheking out the EMG website and the passive pickups site doesn´t say anything about 4 or five string pickups: www.emginc.com/displayproducts.asp?section=Bass&categoryid=31&catalogid=182Will a EMG-PHZ do the job? Thanks a lot , and hope you´re bass nutz as well!

Greetings -
You'll need a P-Bass 5 string pickup designed for 5 strings. You need the spacing and poles to make it work properly.
Bartolini makes a high end and Wilkinson covers the low end. You could probably do a little research and find more, though.

As long as it's wide enough for the 5 strings, and doesn't use individual magnets for each string, you should be fine with those, though I'm certainly not a bass expert, and no doubt someone will come along shortly to say something different EDIT: what did I tell you....

Thanks guys! Yeap, I saw the Bartolini, but I was thinking...It´s weird that EMG doesn´t make a passive p pickup for a 5 string bass... Here´s a pic of the bass Anyone knows about an EMG model that fits? Any tought´s about the EMG-PHZ?? Anyone agrees with pete12345? Thanks!

I think EMGs all use blade-type poles inside, so the position of the strings over the pickups is not to worry about. The A string is obviously being picked up by both coils, but if you have not noticed anything untoward so far, an EMG can only do what you already have, only probably better! I am sure I've seen basses here and there using a 4 string pickup to cover five strings, so it's not so unusual. I say fire away with the EMG, or have a look at Dimarzios site, as they have the DP127, a P-bass pickup with blade poles too. www.dimarzio.com/site/pickups/#/pickups/
