PK-
BG Pickups was a new one on me, hadn't heard of them before. I'll add the link to our Links Page. Thanks for sharing your guitar. People sometimes dis Ibanez but I think they're hard to beat at the price point. I have 2 Ibby solid bodies (but one is in pieces); I like my (not in pieces) S470 a lot, it's a fun axe.

People sometimes dis Ibanez but I think they're hard to beat at the price point. I agree from my own limited experience, but that is also what I got from reviews. I put a lot of research into guitar brands when choosing one for myself and then for a small selection in my secondhand shop. Seemed to me that all the reasonable reviewers were impressed with Ibanez compared to other brands at the same price. Unfortunately, so many people just want to write that whatever entry-level guitar they're reviewing... isn't as good as a Fender or Gibson. Like, we can't guess that paying $1,000 more for something might result in owning a better something. I'm personally not too happy with the tuners and pickups I've seen on Ibanez guitars around $500 or lower.... but that can probably be said for any company. More importantly, the Ibanez look good and seem well-made structurally. So they're worth putting a little money and time into to install new pickups or whatever you want to make it appropriately kick-butt. Today I'm kinda annoyed with Ibanez, I must admit... I wanted to pull the knob off my bass... but rather than the knob slipping off the shaft... THE WHOLE DAMN SHAFT PULLED OUT OF THE POT!!!!!!! Seriously... WTF?! They're small stock pots on one of the cheapest basses around... so I'm probably better off replacing them in any case. Especially since my desire to change the knob was to better facilitate "violining" and these stock parts are obviously not up for that!

Bryan at BG makes great pickups. He's a forum member that the HC forums, as am I. He is highly respected there. After using a couple of his pickups, he has earned my respect. I think of BG before I think of SD, DiMarzio, and other far more expensive custom winders.

We'll treat him with all due respect too....... for about his first 10 or 12 posts - then it's off with the kid gloves! ;D Seriously, you're authorized - newey and I say so! And while I'm at it: Hi, and to the NutzHouse! sumgai

BAY-
I've had that happen with a cheap push/pull pot. No way to fix it AFAIK, so a new pot is in order.

That bass has a nice woodgrain, I need a bass too..... well i dont have a bass, so i can justify buying one This is my first bass. I got it instead of the semi-hollow one I hoped to get earlier in this thread. I really like the look of the wood, but also the texture is amazing. It doesn't have the sticky/sweaty forearm feeling I'm annoyed with on shiny guitars. Most importantly... it sounded better than the same model in regular shiny plasticky black finish. I don't know about the plugged-in comparison, but I always think of the advice that a nice-sounding unplugged electric is something to look for... since the pickups can be changed anyways. Just plucking a string of each while this one was hanging beside the black one... the difference was dramatic. The matte mahogany finish was resonant and woody... presumably closer to the semi-hollow I was after. It makes me want to only have guitars with unfilled grain and minimal finish. It also makes me want to use Matte Mahogany as a stage name! If you're in the market for a bass... this bass is the best deal I can find at the price. All the reviews I've read about it are positive. It's very basic, though, but I think it's cool. It's an Ibanez GSR100EX and I think there's one without the EX, which is single-coil instead of humbucking. BAY- I've had that happen with a cheap push/pull pot. No way to fix it AFAIK, so a new pot is in order. I'm going to replace both pots with really good ones. I don't trust the Tone pot anymore after seeing what his brother did. I jammed the post back in so I could still play the bass. It kinda works but turning is choppy. I'm going to replace the pots and replace the volume knob with a Gibson-style speed knob because I think it would be better for the "violining" thing like ya can do with a Strat. I don't know if people do that with a bass, but it sounds really nice to me and I don't know anything about bass. Maybe not for playing the bass part of a song, but for scoring a tense YouTube video or something. It sounds grande and foreboding like some kind of church organ or something. I guess if they call it "violing" on a guitar, what I'm talking about is more like "celloing."
