We all have that dream guitar somwhere.. however that isnt going to happen for whatever reasons, so what is your 'down to earth' dream? For me, it is a Gretsch Guo jet in black (electromatic) with a P90 in the neck, not an expensive one, and a filtertron that has been shoehorned in to a p94 casing a bit like that actually .....

I keep making my affordable "dream guitars"...which says something if there isn't just "one"...
Strat... Jeff Beck Pups, no noise, 30+ selections, stabilized trem, locking tuners, great neck, mahogany body, rear routing...classic but unique looks...leather bound pickup ring...LOL
Tele... vintage wide range fender pup + Scn, no noise, custom colour and design, gibson style switching plus phase....infinite sustain...maple fingerboard, kahler trem, LSR locking tuners...
LP 22-dual JP like wiring, kahler trem, lubed nut, roller and locking tuners for tuning stability...lovely flamed maple top...
These are all in the gallery section...
...
I do have a new one in "mind"...
A similar LP, all extreme gold flake (actually have this in the wardrobe)...kahler (actually have this in the cupboard)...piezo system with tuner (have a few of these) somehow worked into the kahler and controls mounted on the top edge of the guitar...perhaps a pair of Lipstick HB's to maximize the chrome...
Ah...but it keeps changing...
Lately I have been thinking that something with a midi controller would be cool...then I could use it to input into a new computer (oh, dreaming) to more easily and accurately create transcriptions and such...
...
I've always had a secret desire for a korina iceman like the 'high school hero' played when I started learning guitar for some reason...very rare to find these days I suspect...
...
Make believe things...
like a guitar with a digital recorder in it...so if I play something great, I can output it into a computer rather than try and play it again and capture the moment...
Perhaps a guitar with a inbuilt MP3 player...have the "band" on MP3 backing tracks going to a separate output and amp...
A 'surf' guitar...with a cheesy mini organ keyboard below the strings...
A 9 string....doubled top strings to create a 12 string effect but with single strings in the bass...
fret-less or half defretted guitar?
Oh...always wanted a coral sitar or similar...perhaps a guitar bridge that can be converted on the fly to a buzz bridge
How about something with a trilogy like alternate tuning device...so one could instantly change between tunings...
Or perhaps...a trem that could alos be switched to just one string...instant B b-bender kind of thing...or perhaps just a b-bender guitar...LOL
oh dear...i must be dreaming...
...
How about a decent single pickup LPjnr perhaps...just a great sounding no frills guitar...
I saw a nice cheap hollowbody single pup archtop once that sounded and looked very cool...should have picked it up
....
Really, there are so many 'dreams'...some of the ones I have 'dreamed up' have in reality been nightmares...LOL...
Things with a million pickup selections, till you can't hardly tell the difference between them...and none of them sound 'great'...
....
Generally though...I do have some desirable general things that I look for these days...
Got to look good..not just to me or guitar geeks...but to the general audience...for this, ask women I find...
No noise...the only noise coming out of the guitar should be the noise I make with it...
Uncluttered...don't want something that looks like you need an airline pilots license to operate...
Logical and functional, I want the general pup selections to be easy to get to...
Something ergonomic in general...balanced and doesn't weigh as much as a house brick...like my old LP custom does!
Something unique about the looks and sound of the thing...a bit classic, but yet slightly unique...
Something that works for the music played on it...
...
And I dare say, a nice fairly wide necked acoustic would be something I am lacking...
I quite like the idea of a slightly "bigger" guitar that sits up in the playing position better...like a 335 or something...
...
There is certainly something to be said for some of the 'cool retro' guitars...perhaps a highly modified jazz master as per that thread...
The duo jet is like that I guess...love JB's "crazy legs" album played on it...not sure that the bigsby is going to be that good for the tuning...but it adds to the retro coolness I guess.
...
Seriously though, there is not "one guitar"...I really, really used to think like that...and I have my favorites (at the moment my new strat is my go to guitar)...but guitars are interesting things, they do kind of inspire you to change your approach to playing for some reason. Ever go to a music shop (I used to troll about them in the 70's doing this) and trying out some guitar and finding something you hadn't played before on it? I'd like something that inspires that...or several!

a bigsby is a big shiny peice of metal to have on your guitar , and everyone likes shiny things ^^
I am alwaysed amazed at how good a tone you get from the neck pickup of a tele, with a nice bit of drive, and i could probably go for a 335, and a proper big jazzbox too.. then a les paul, maybe a strat/telecaster... but this is my current 'next' guitar

Dream guitar..... Any guitar that inspires me to play like I was 16 again, no dinner, no tv, just playing all the time and loving it. Or.....Ms. Pearly's twin sister.

Mine would be a Gretsch, too, but a hollow-body. Specifically, one of the 50th Anniversary models in the "'57 Caddy Green" color with the small soundbox.
I like the Duo-Jets, too. But to my mind, it's not a Gretsch unless it has the volume knob on the bout (In addition to the Bigsby, of course . . .)
As long as we're dreaming, I'd like a Ric 360, too. But neither one is likely to happen, I'll just be here plunking away on my el cheapo guitars forever (all 10 of them, not counting the projects in the works).

I've also got a number of things on the old wish list.
The big one is that I want to replace my Strat with a Thinline Tele. The big problem there is that I want it to have the same set of 3 x L'il Killers and I cannot find anywhere a Thinline Tele with 3 pickups. I'd like to re-figure the wiring some when I do it. Don't think I really need the split coil options since I almost always choose in favor of the intra-pickup parallel. I'd like to have the option of inter-pickup series sounds, and maybe some phase in there too. I don't need it to be a "real fender" or anything. Might even be cool if it was just slightly offset in shape.
Speaking of which, I've always kind of wanted a 12-string Surfcaster.
I'd like to have a lap steel. I had some ideas on building one with a sustainer and whammy bar, but haven't gotten past the dreaming stage on that.
I also would like to have a sitar type thing, but mine would need the sympathetic strings and all that. Maybe a 6 string electric banjo while we're at it.
And a true baritone would be nice. Friend of mine had one of the Dano's and I really liked it, except for the fact that it was sea foam green.
I've always thought I'd rather have an SG than an LP, but I can't afford a true set-neck version. Well, maybe if I sold the LP Studio I could get into an Epiphone, but this was my dead brother's guitar and my sister and remaining brother would disown me if I sold it rather than giving it to one of them.
I have found myself somewhat curious re: P90s and Filtertrons lately.
Then there's the basses. If I was to refinish the ones I've got, I'd be pretty happy, though I'd like to mess around with pickups to get a few options on the full-sized P-sytle.

As long as it's just the wish list...and affordable, I've had my eye on an Ibanez SR 6 string bass for a while now. While I'm not a fan of active electronics, This was one of the nicest sounding 6 strings I've played for the money. And it just felt right...not like I was playing the paddle on a canoe oar... HTC1

First, a nocaster replica, without fake wear. I love the tele sound. Rock, pop, country, if you can't do it with a tele, you shouldn't try it at all. (sorry, forgot metal)
But after that, I really want a Les Paul. Really subtle flamed top, with a faded cherry burst. Some really nice PAF style humbuckers, w/ covers, with a thinner sounding neck PUP (think less Slash, more Jazz) that is out of phase with the bridge pup. Ebony fretboard (it's way classier), trap. inlays, and a decorative Gibson inlay on the headstock (doesn't need to be made by Gibson, I just like the name).
If I had those two guitars, I could sell all other guitars. Maybe a dano for some odd tones, but it's not required.

This. Or this. Or if I need a bass, this. Edit: On reflection, although it spoils the surprise, that last link isn't the best idea if you're at work, or in a library etc.Alright, I'm pulling your leg.

So ijustwannastrat, you dont actually want a strat... Don't get me wrong, there isn't any more comfort than a strat. BUT, I just have found tones to be lacking. The tele has a damn comfortable neck, and the les paul has a really comfortable body. Both have great tone. That's what wins.

I guess I forgot to mention my lust for a Rick bass. I'm pretty well resigned to the fact that ain't gonna happen, though.
