Can anyone help me incorporate a blend pot into my guitar?.......... I don't know how it works.........not exactly anyway........... i want to put it before my 4 pole 5 way switch to blend to HB's that I coil tap with the switch.................ant ideas or diagrams will help alot... thanx in advance.
hey, crashbarr. a blend pot is a pot that blends 2 sources. in the middle position there is a detent, which means that the pot sort of clicks into place. if you are blending 2 pickups, then in that middle position of the pot, both pickups are at 100% volume. if you turn it clockwise, the volume decreases on pickup1 but stays 100% on pickup2. and if you turn counterclockwise, the volume decreases on pickup2 but stays 100% on pickup1. there are other uses, but this is the most obvious one. check out the thread link below. x189 describes how to use em and more on how they work. guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=wiring&action=display&thread=1114523696
I use a Fender Noload pot as blend pot (I actually got the idea from the Kinman website): in the no load position, the pickup(s) connected to the pot are not in the circuit whatsoever. A schematic can be found on www.fralinpickups.com/wiring.asp where the neck pickup is blended into the rest. As the bridge pickup is typically brighter, I've choosen to the blending with my bridge pickup. The volume pot is still the master volume, the middle put is now the master tone and the most right pot (looked from above) is the blend pot.

I'm glad I did a little reading before starting a new thread on this. I just found the Fralin site tonight, and was interested in seeing what other GuitarNuts thought about the Blend Pot. But I'd also like to try the three 3-position switches for individual pickup selection, as in . Doing a QTB and the other mods on my Johnson JS-050- would be an opportunity to have all three pickups potted by Fralin & Co., and maybe have the bridge pup rewound a little hotter, add the Bass Plate, etc. Any help with a schematic or other input on the above babbling would be much appreciated. BTW, I just recently acquired an Ibanez TM71 Talman (the HH, hardtail type), so I won't feel too deprived while the "Mini-Strat" is out of service.
