I should've checked to see if this has been posted before, but I just ran across it this afternoon while looking for info on Blender Pots and TBX controls. It addresses the problem of a standard Strat's neck/middle combination being "muffled" because the tone pots are paralleled. uts.cc.utexas.edu/~mic/info/guitar/mods/infinity-tone.html
That's actually an old trick. I think it started in the early 80's, maybe earlier. Players wanted the tone control there but didn't want it to color the sound of the pickup with it on 10. Very good info to have around.
Rather than scraping the track away, another way is to use nail polish.
