There's been some talk about ring modulation around here lately, so I thought I'd post a little sample of the particular abuse I've been putting my MoogerFooger through lately. It's based on that song "When Things Go Black" which you can find a little lower on this forum. On the left hand side is a mix of my guitar and Luke's bass both pretty much straight into our V-Amps. The right hand side is the MoogerFooger through the Behringer SansAmp clone set for a pretty high gain kind of sound. My guitar is plugged into the Audio In, and the bass goes into the Carrier In. You can use your Balance/Pan controls to isolate them, if you'd like. Download and ListenA couple things you'll notice: 1) Ideally, you would not be able to hear either of us unless we were both playing. That is, if either of us is silent the whole thing should be silent. Apparently this is impossible in any analog implementation, so you hear a little bleed through mostly of my guitar. It is actually so quiet that it wouldn't normally be heard. With all the gain and compression from the Amp sim, though, the bleed comes through almost as loud as the actual desired signal. 2) There's a high-pitched whine throughout. I haven't taken the time to track this down. It mostly gets lost in the mix when we're actually playing with the full band since this channel is mixed quite a bit lower than where I've put it here. I suspect it comes from the fact that the power supply I'm using is a bit underpowered for this pedal, but not quite sure. 3) When we're both playing the same thing an octave off it really sounds a whole lot like a somewhat broken and heavily distorted mix of the two instruments. When I go off into chords and especially when I go off into the lead stuff that doesn't much correlate to the bassline things start to get truly interesting.
