Now who doesn't love a good physics joke ?.......
But back to Aflac.
I always cringed a little when the offering for the definitive quack was Knopfler's Sultan's for the reasons cited earlier by a GN2 luminary --- deep compression, and I am not talking resusication here.
I keep my ears peeled for a more representative quack tune .....
And the nominations are in......
I would nominate Lenny by SRV.
You can hear both the hollowness and the thinning in that little homage to his wife (or ex .... I think)
I heard it live a number of times moving around Austin dives, but among many things not remembered from that era, his 5-way lever position is not recalled. But I am almost certain it is the 4th (N/M Parallel) position. He did not always play it as it was a little mellow for him given the states I frequently saw him in.
Any other quacky nominiees? Not Sultan's pls.

Although I admire Knopfers playing, his sound was always a little too tinny for my taste. As I stated before when I think Strat quack I think SRV. His version of Little Wing makes my toe stand up in my boot! That song to me screams smooth Stratocaster.

Time has marched on. Are we through with this, or can I post some observations that I think are relevant? If nobody wants to hear anymore about it, I'll leave well enough alone. sumgai

I was gonna save this for a time when I needed to "duck and run," but this might be that time. Some of those ads aren't funny if you're a duck. Quack, quack, quack. Heh, heh, heh. Ahem. "Lenny." Good tune. From Wolf Marshall's "Signature Licks" book Guitar Instrumental Hits: "Throughout the intro and head, Stevie shakes the chords with the vibrato bar (à la the Ventures) for a quasi-Hawaiian effect and uses a sensitive fingerstyle articulation." And later: "Stevie Ray Vaughan played "Lenny" on a unique yellow '64 Fender Stratocaster. Nicknamed Lenny (also after his wife [at the time]), this Strat was hollowed out at one time for four humbuckers and was later restored by Charley Wirz." Aren'tcha glad this thread is about "Strat quack" and not "Strat spank?" ;D

that spring resonance... i have heard (will try it out soon) that if you install something like rockinger blackbox instead of the middle spring you would get more sustain or so

Time has marched on. Are we through with this, or can I post some observations that I think are relevant? If nobody wants to hear anymore about it, I'll leave well enough alone. sumgai Sumgai, my take on this is: the initiator of a thread has some say on how the direction of that thread should go. since i started this thread, i say: if you have something to say, by all means say it! if it's on topic, great. if is remotely relevant but funny say it!if you think i missed the mark say it!i appreciate the polite gesture of asking first, but in the future, if it's thread i started, consider it open ended and jump right in. the way i see it, all opinions have validity. whether they're a different way of looking at things, a support for a theory, a dissent to a theory, whatever, the only bad thing would be if someone didn't say what was on their mind! the beauty of an open forum, is that we speak freely and get a greater perspective of things by viewing other peoples opinions. if i ever see a thread that i think has gone too far off the topic i started, i might try to steer it back, but i would never think less of will someone who went off on a tangent. tangents can be interesting too. the only thing i find objectionable is if someone states something as fact, and supports it with "bad science" or made-up B.S. i doubt, from what i've seen so far, that you operate in that mode. that's my opinion on the matter. if you don't share that same opinion, well then, say it!unk
