Now I know there are lutherie schools that teach you everything from how to make a guitar from chopping down the trees, to choosing the woods to making it into a playable instrument.
Does anyone know of any courses/certifications that deal specifically to train you for guitar and amp electrinics repair and building etc.? Is it just DIY, read some books, learn basic electronics etc.?

i really don't know. "back in the day", vacuum tubes were mainstream, and solid-state was the "new kid in town". so electronics training classes were able to train someone in all the fundamentals needed for guitar amplifier repair and design. nowadays, you only get part of the fundamentals you would need. and in some schools, not much past ohms law, before they jump right into boolean algebra, digital logic, microprocessors, and programming. i mentioned a few websites with some tube theory in this post: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=amp&thread=1143086542&post=1143521329but as far as books go, i hear Kevin O'Connor's "ultimate tone" series is pretty good. unk
