The rail-mounted moving pickup -definitely- needs to be knob-controlled, as far as position goes. Just because you could and it would be really classy. Even better; assemble plastic plates, like they way they surround stickshifts in automatic cars, to keep the rout and it's stuff non-visible.
...this is why I need a CNC machine. =( Like a floor shifter on a 'Vette, then that pleated accoridian boot for the expand-o-contract-o-matic action of the pup going back and forth. Put a racing stripe on it and call it the Lemans, or put a Decal of ... I don't know .... how about Trojans and call it the Nascar special. But then we have to search for the proper compound for the just-right Goldilocks "Tone Rubber". Appropriate for the sponsor decal on the Nascar Special. hey "stubby" FWIW, i think Gibson had a bass, back-in-the-day, with a sliding pickup. (Grabber?) i do kinda like this idea, and/or adjustable angle for the pickup(s). probably not so much for a production unit, more as a mule, for experimentation, unk
