Almost blew it! Out running errands for too long, it would seem that every vehicle driver in the world had to use US Highway 2.... and had to do it as slowly as possible. How they found out that I wanted to get home, I'll never figure out.
Anyway.... The very title of this one should cause you to do a double take. But I chose this one in particular because the channel holder is known for doing transcriptions to the piece under discussion. I strong suggest that you watch that instead of the player, as there are comments along side of the musical notes that are, shall we say, hilarious.
If you want to see the original, without the transcription, there's a link in the description.
Enjoy!

According to Miles (I think it was him . . .), it's not the notes you play, it's the ones you don't play . . .

According to Miles (I think it was him . . .), it's not the notes you play, it's the ones you don't play . . . The canard about "the notes you don't play" comes from none other than Claude Debussy, who said: Music is the space between the notes. Allegedly Miles Davis paraphrased it into: It's not the notes you play, it's the rests in between. But I couldn't find an authority for that one, so take it or leave it. However, Miles did say, and I quote: It's not the note that you play that's wrong, it's the note you play afterwards that makes it right or wrong. HTH sumgai

I forgot who told me this...or actually how many years ago it was that they told me this...but it has to do with covering a song. The premise was that if you're going to cover a song, you have two choices. You can either attempt a faithful note for note rendition, or you can make it your own. Jazz leans heavier on the "make it your own" side...

Mick Jagger was once quoted as saying something to the effect that there's no point in covering a song unless you're going to make it your own.
