Actually, it's more than that. It "splits" a track into four separate components, "music", vocals, bass and drums. You are then presented with four sliders and you can boost or cut each of the components. It's like taking a track and putting it back into a four track recording. vocalremover.org/It's worth the time and effort to try it out- maybe once or twice anyway. でつ e&oe ...

I tried it twice, and all I got was static/hiss/nothing even close to useful. A third time, to try a different genre, and I got the message "Too many requests from your IP, please try again later. Or become a patron." The last word being a link, but I didn't follow it.
It may just be me, but my first impression is that the product is not yet ready for prime-time.

I would criticise it for having a bit too much distortion compared to the original, but I put that down to using the audio reproduction qualities of a mobile 'phone. I was given the heads-up about this by a self proclaimed perfectionist professional performing and recording artist and sometime producer with north of a dozen of his own CDs under his belt who had tried it on some of his own work and was astounded. Still 'n' all, you get what you pay for, theoretically.

Still 'n' all, you get what you pay for, theoretically. These day, if you're not the customer, you must be the product... I thought it was better than most vocal removing tools. It did muffle the vocal-less track, but if I was just using it to figure out the song it would be good enough. HTC1

OK, so what kind of material were you two testing with? I did a track of rock (AC/DC - Back In Black) and a track of country (Commander Cody - Beat Me Daddy (Eight To The Bar)). My attempted third trial would've been blues, but like I said, I was rejected.
What I got could be better described as a "rushing" sound. This describes a very high-gain circuit that is doing nothing at the moment. It's actually tube noise, the "chatter" of electrons leaving the cathode and arriving at the anode (plate). More of a radio thing, but still a good description of what I got.
So in writing this, I decided to try it again. Right off the top, I got the same "Too many requests...." message again. Plainly, this is still in Beta, and is not ready to go live.

OK, so what kind of material were you two testing with? Morphine - Murder for the Money Primus - Tommy the Cat The vocal track actually sounded better than the musical track on both...if that makes any sense... It didn't like bass double stops...or anything the bass plays above the octave...it throws a portion of them into the vocal track. It did get most of it right. It seems, though, like whatever the AI is uncertain about, it just applies -12db...or it drops it from the track. I liked it more than I dislike it. It never griped about processing or too many requests when I tried it. You're not using that kerosene powered laptop again, are you? HTC1 P.S.: When I used the SPLITTER, which makes 4 tracks instead of 2, like the VOCAL REMOVER, it gave me this: Too many requests from your IP address. Please try again later or become a patron Perhaps it's not an issue with the technology, but rather one with funding...

I only tried it out on "Down Don't Bother Me No More" by The Derek Trucks Band, and it fared well enough ignoring the above just noticeable distortion on playback through the ubiquitous "smart" 'phone. If exclusion by IP is going on then I suspect tired old loss leader shenanigans. It was the "Free" bit to which I was attracted.

...The Derek Trucks Band... ...It was the "Free" bit to which I was attracted... Two things I can appreciate. It's why I gutted it out with Linux after Windows 7..but I digress... Tedeschi Trucks Band is going to be at the Chicago Theater next month for 4 days...but I digress some more... HTC1

I've been using the 'vocalremover' tool on the site for a couple of years or more... and as a tool for breaking-out the instrumental thing to work out a tune, it's been a huge help. Most recent examples include: Steve Winwood, Dave Edmunds, Enya, TV ads... Sure, it often sounds like the the track is being played through a cocked wah pedal in a sewer... but 'horses for courses'. Obviously, the 'too many...' message is a marketing angle... For $-free use, I can easily manage my requests over a few days - I don't use the tool THAT often...

I still find jazz to be the best vocal remover... HTC1 Miles Davis would agree with you, I'm sure.
