The link worked as intended for me. Good ol' Justin Johnson, he comes up with the weirdest things. However, 4real, cynical1, myself, and probably one or two more members who Search can't dig up, we've all posted various skateboard guitars over the years. Then again, we don't have YouTube channels, whereas..... sumgai

So, completely off topic here, but at my lesson tonight, my instructor had his banjo, apparently he had given a banjo lesson before mine. So he hands it to me and teaches me a few basic cords. I had never played a banjo before, this was the 5-string variety. Felt like it was from some other planet, just how one holds it and has the strap. But I got the G-C-D7 thing down enough that my teacher could lay down some Deliverance leads on his guitar.
As a guitar player, this was pretty hard to wrap my head around because, discounting the 5th G string (tuned an octave up), the other strings are tuned like strings 2-4 of a guitar, D-G-B. But then the 1st string is tuned down to a D. I keep expecting the note on the first string to be pitched higher than the others, but it's lower. I simply could not get used to that. Chords were fine, but any sort of picking I was quickly lost with that 1st string.
After about 10 minutes, I got the concept, but it would take mucho more time before my mind would adapt, let alone my fingers. The whole thing just seems so bass-akwards. But it was fun, I must admit, it sort of scratched an Earl Scruggs itch (to some small extent, given my complete lack of expertise and/or talent with this thing).
Heavy sucker, too. Danged resonator has some heft to it. Felt like an LP.
SO, that's my story of this Monday evening which I stuck in this Sunday themed post only because it didn't seem to merit a thread of its own.

Take the red pill and enter the world of alternate tunings newey! Martin Simpson set me off down that path. I use about five, but my Sobell acoustic www.sobellguitars.com/new-world-model/is tuned CGCGCD almost exclusively and I love it. (In a primarily roots and fifths tuning so does the guitar- it's like a cittern and it sings.) I do occasionally tune to standard on that guitar, and all bar one of my electrics are in standard (that one is in open E to remind me how good Derek Trucks is!) I have had an Aria Mastertone knock-off 5-string G banjo since the late 1980s too, the tuning is basically open G and you get used to using the thumb on the high G over time (Play a ukulele?) Actually, I tune the banjo GCGBD because although it came to me in GDGBD, I had a teach yourself book that suggested the C tuning was the way to go and I thought I'd better learn properly from the get go, but now I wish I'd left it stock. The banjo comes in for some ridicule, unfounded in my view, but until I bought that acoustic it would have been my desert island instrument- hell it would even make a good paddle! Do explore open tunings because they really revitalise your playing and offer many new things to play. I had a classical lesson back in 2010- one of three as a gift, and the teacher was astonished at some of my alternate tuning pieces and even asked me to bring along more to the next lesson for him to learn. I never used the other two paid for lessons but that's another story ... でつ e&oe ...

I have played around with alternate tunings on guitar, mostly open A for slide stuff or open G to emulate Keef, though. And of course dropped D on the 6th string for the occasional metal(ish) fix. Watched a video on DADGAB tuning once and tried to play along with that but never got very far.
And I have played a ukulele, but that's just like barring the first 4 strings of a guitar at the 5th fret. What I couldn't wrap my head around with the banjo was that 1st D string tuned lower than the ones next to it, I kept wanting to finger a higher-pitched note on the first string and it's not there. And I never got to the point of using the 5th G for anything fretted. Like anything else, I suppose familiarity comes with time, this was after only a few minutes.

You all will note that I have not made my usual snarky pitch for a guitar synth that can sound like a banjo, and can implement any manner of alternate tuning that one might wish, right? Well, I'm not doing that now, either. Just so you know... sumgai

the derailer understudy . . so… 1.) The prefix de is defined as at www.dictionary.com/browse/de2.) And rail is defined as by Webster’s Revised Unabridged Dictionary. 3.) And, postfix er definition is obvious. *** So, a “ derailer understudy” refers to one who is taking classes to become a rope enthusiast? ot: Are these classes expensive? :?:

unreg- From the Merriam-Webster dictionary. An understudy is not, therefore, "taking classes". They already know the part or they can't be an understudy. And, where did the rope come in?

Well… it seems that negating an iron bar results in a rope separator. Though, I’ve never negated an iron bar before, so I might be wrong.

Well, if you're standing on the outside of a rope separator: 1) You're spending too much time in line, trying to get into clubs 2) You're not with the band . . . Just sayin'

Well, if you're standing on the outside of a rope separator: 1) You're spending too much time in line On the opening day of Starwars Episode 1, we arrived four hours early and so acquired a spot near the very front of the line. Around 3 hours 30 minutes later, since the line had wrapped around the entire theater, they set up a rope separator to keep the end separate from the beginning. It was exciting standing/sitting on the inside of a rope separator. The news cameras arrived; they interviewed some of the people at the end and those at the very front (not us). That was fun! , trying to get into clubs During Coldplay’s Rush of Blood to the Head tour, we arrived 6 hours early. It was fun for me to listen to conversations in that line. And since we arrived so early, we got to stand near the stage, about 15 25 feet away from right underneath Chris Martin. At a venue that size, it was amazing and spectacular. On the other hand, I bought a ticket for Radiohead the day of the concert; drove around 6 hours; and arrived moments before the concert started. Everyone else was already there so there was no line to wait in; that was also amazing and spectacular! Though, I don’t recommend doing that since driving to a concert 6 hours away, 6 hours before the concert started, causes me to make stupid decisions while driving… all while trying to arrive on time. God blessed me; the concert sold out and it was incredible! 2) You're not with the band . . . That’s familiar to me. never have been part of a band, but music is fun!
