hello,
i went out to ted browns today and i picked up a 250k push/pull pot just becuz it was cheap and i wanted to try to rewire my ibanez.
my ibanez has 2HB's and a 3-way pickup selector
i want to wire it so that everything is how it is now when its down(neck, both, bridge) and when its up, only have the one pickup on the neck, one on the bridge, and off when its to the right
i know i need a 500k pot for humbuckers, but this is all i can find atthe moment....
can anyone help me or point me in the right direction for more research? everywhere i look it seems like theres nothing on 3-way pickup selectors, only 3-way toggles and 5-way selectors....
thanks a bunch!

hi Jeff,
i'm about to pull the plug for the night, but before i go i'll ask a question that will help you get some assistance from one of the other members.
is your Ibanez 3-way switch like a Tele, or is it like a Les Paul?
is the handle round, or does the base of the handle look like a strat switch at the base (blade-like) ?
also, it might be difficult to get the exact switching you are asking for.
with the push-pull up, having neck single, both singles, bridge single would be easy.
cheers,
unk

thanks for the quick reply
its blade style
and would it be posible to have it off, neck single, bridge single?
also, if it helps, the HB's have 2 wires comming from one big one:one sheided and one unshielded

no, i don't think that will be possible. the problem is the 3-way switch. it's designed with 2 connections for the pickups, and one for the output. the middle position connects both pickups together. since it's a probably a double switch, you could use the other half to make a dead-spot (off) in the center. but you don't have enough poles on the push-pull to split both HBs and enable the dead-spot too. you might look here to find a wiring diagram that will show how your guitar is presently wired: ibanez.com/wiring/models.asp?t=ethat will help determine what might be possible with the selector you have. unk

hmm...so does this mean that since my HBs only have 2 wires i cant select singles?

darkintertia: that is correct, 2wire hb's are not tappable, ie you cannot select singles. kinda sux. although there is a way to modify the hb to be 4wire, it is a royal pain, and you might as well make your life easy and buy a 4wire humbucker for $10-15.

Now that's annoyin'. I have an RG120, too, and wanted to see that diagram. I emailed Ibanez about it, but haven't gotten a reply yet, and the "broken link" icon is still there on that page. BTW, mine has a Bill Lawrence (USA) XL500 for the bridge pup, but no other mods to it (yet).

oh wow i never knew anyone else with a 120 haha yea i wanna mod the hell outta this thing i just dont know what to do... what i got so far for ideas is: killswitch(did that today 5-way switch some type of distortion to replace the tone(i dunno how to do that tho... lol) led wired to the volume knob so that its brightness reflects off of the volume new pickups duct tape the whole body(did that too ) maybe drill a hole and put a 3 way toggle thats all i got so far :/
