So this is a tale of 2 humbuckers that should sound about the same but don't. I'm trying to understand why. When I got my Lazarus it had the burstbucker pickups, and I hated the neck because it was way too dark and muddy. It's got an A2 magnet and is wound to 8.2k. I measured right about 5H of inductance. Fast forward to my Gibson Greeny. It's got the brightest PAF-style humbucker that I've ever heard. In the guitar it measures 8.18k with an inductance of 4.51h. Actual inductance out of the guitar would likely be a bit higher. This pickup also uses an A2 magnet, so on paper this should sound about the same as the Burstbucker, but it's drastically brighter. It's brighter than my brightest prior humbucker, which was only wound to about 6.8k/3.7H (in guitar). The only reason that I can come up with is that maybe the coil closest to the bridge (which is the screw coil in the case of the Greeny) has substantially more winds than the neck (slug) coil. Would this explain it, or am I missing something else?
