And my first post too. Nice board by the way. Okay, I've got a Mexi-strat I'm in the process of shielding, and I was wondering if I need to shield the jack cavity as well? (total newbie here) Also, is it imperative to bring the shielding onto the face of the guitar at all the edges of the cavities or is just tabbing some copper foil to a few of the pick guard screws sufficient? There's an article in SOS by Dave Lockwood that only shows one tab of copper foil going to the pick guard at the neck joint and no shielding on the face anywhere else - volume 21 • issue 10 (about three issues ago.) Is this bogus or not? I'm using a Callaham aluminum shield under the pick guard if that makes any difference... Thanks guys. Res

Welcome, glad you like the forum.
Contact between the two pieces of metal is the issue, So I tab them to the pickguard screws, the pickguard screws ensure the two are in contact. That tab at the neck joint may not make contact if the pickguard is bowed.
I usually don't shield my jack cavity at all.
Good luck with your project, Wesman

i think that covers it pretty well Wesman!
Res,
we don't call 'em noobs here, we call 'em newbies.
that should let ya know how we feel about ya.
advice:
if you go to a forum and they refer to you as a noob, be careful.
if you go to a forum and they refer to you as a nubile, be real, REAL, careful.

Thanks Wesman. Unk, you're absolutely right, newbie is a much nicer term and I've modified my post as such. and yes, 'Nubile' would probably have me worried... heh Res

hi there, like you said, conductivity is the rule, test with the DMM. but seems like you figured it out one question though There's an article in SOS by Dave Lockwood that only shows one tab of copper foil going to the pick guard at the neck joint and no shielding on the face anywhere else - volume 21 • issue 10 (about three issues ago.) Res what is that publication you're referring to exactly? never heard of that before. seems quite extensive if they're at volume 21 thanks j

what is that publication you're referring to exactly? never heard of that before. seems quite extensive if they're at volume 21 Sorry, I should have said 'Sound on Sound' - it's a recording magazine printed in the UK. They've only recently started the 'guitar technology' feature that I mentioned with the shielding blurb in it. check out the mag here - www.sospubs.co.ukRes
