Just a quick question on the QTB mod for a Fender Fat Strat. How do I go about moving the negative leads of the humbucker to the ring terminal? The stock wiring has one lead (green wire) soldered to one of the posts of the selector switch. Do I solder all four leads from the humbucker to the ring terminal? Any help would be appreciated.

OK you cowards. I'll ask the obvious question...
Why are you performing QTB on humbuckers?

Fat Strat= two single coils one humbucker. Single coils making noise, humbucker just fine.

Yikes! not but a few hours into my self-imposed 2 day rule, and i'm breaking it!
hi Scipio776,
Welcome to GuitarNuts2.
i think PollysHero's "cowards" comments were for the rest of us, not you.
we all know each other pretty well, so we don't take that sort of thing personally.
the wire from the coil of the HB that is currently connected to the back of the volume pot , will need to be moved to the star ground.
if there is a wire from the frame of the HB to the back of the volume pot, that stays where it is, or in some fashion will connect to the sheilding.

Thanks unk, I have a four conductor shielded wire running from the bridge humbucker. All four wires appear to be connected to the coil via a post at each corner of the pickup. Only one connector is soldered to the volume pot.
1. That should be the only wire that I move to the star ground, correct?
2. The shield braid is also soldered to the volume pot, do I leave that as is?
3. Aside from the humbucker, all other wiring should be done the same as the Guitarnuts instructions for a standard single coil Strat?

hi Scipio776,
you have it right.
1 - yes, only that wire moves to the star ground.
2 - yes, the braid can stay where it is. make sure you have a connection from the case of the volume pot to the shielding. generally this is not a problem, if the back of the pickguard is covered with foil, the pots will make a good connection through their bushings.
3 - i can't think of any other changes you would need to make.
good luck,
unk

Look who's a coward now, Not to mention a dumba**. Sorry scipio - I had intended to be witty & it obviously didn't happen. I had also intended to get involved in this discussion & actually maybe be of some help. Obviously that didn't happen either. Your immediate in-the-know answer to me would have been enough to shut me up - even if other pressing matters hadn't kept me from coming back until now.
I have displayed my ignorance and am shamefaced before you all.
In the futuer, I will be less of an%.
My apologies.
P.S. I will also endeavor to learn to spell f-u-t-u-r-e

...I have displayed my ignorance and am shamefaced before you all.... well, good! now you know how the rest of us feel, from time-to-time. the only thing that saved me from displaying my own ignorance (confusing Fat Strat with Double Fat Strat), was my 2-day rule. true, a closed mouth gathers no foot. but a permanently closed mouth conveys no message either. so wipe the egg off your face, and get back in the game. and being from Texas, we forgive the spelling. actually it's sort of endearing. ya prolly can't spell nucular either. unk
