Hello, I am currently working on constructing an electric zither. The interesting thing about the instrument is that it will require 8 pickups to be running simultaneously. I want to use DiMarzio Super Distortion S humbuckers as the pickups, though I am a relative lay person when it comes to electronics. Consequently, I am unsure exactly how to go about wiring 8 pickups together. Can I simply wire them in series and treat it as though it was just one giant pickup without a selector switch, or will I have to boost the signal while running through so many pickups. I am not sure really where to start, so any help or pointing in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

Hello and one advice: You should have posted this in the Electronics and Wiring board.
As regards your question: Don't wire them in series because your sound would become very muddy. Wire them in parallel, that should do!

hi alrightythen90, welcome to GuitarNuts2. 8 pickups? YIKES! i suppose that's because there are so many strings. it might be simpler to use a pair of replacement pickups for a clavinet. each should be long enough to cover all the strings. www.gti.net/junebug/clavinet/products.html#Pickupsin parallel, i think even hot dimarzios could sound a bit thin, with 7 more pickups in parallel with the one that is sensing the string being played at the particular time.
