on the ToneMonster" Schematic can the 4th switch along with one of the tone pot's be removed from this and it still work??? what i was thinking was running the neck and mid in series and the bridge in parallel will this work? ?? i dont like the idea of a 4th switch but i do like the 3 individual switches controlling the pups what my ultimate goal is.............to have all 3 pups with phase switch and ser/par switch one tone and volume done all with switches and no p/p pots any help would be greatly welcomed

welcome gfiles! Without a significant amount of investigation, my preliminary results are: yes, you can eliminate the 4th switch, but why? That is the switch that switches from series to parallel, which is something you've listed above that you want. If you eliminate it, you can still have series and parallel, but you won't have any way to turn off any of the pups (all three will be on at all times, just in series or parallel). You most definitely could go to a single tone. You might want to check out: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=schem&action=display&thread=1130243150

Thanks for the welcome
i didnt do a great job of explaining what i was thinking, so i will try again with a little more detail
from the pups have a switch on all three pups that control phase a on/on switch where there just in phase or out of phase
then to to 3 more switches that are wired ser/off/par
then out to a single tone and single vol controls
the second row of switches would let me turn them off

I understand you intent now, but I'm not sure if there's anything here that already accomplishes that. Check out the Schematics section, in addition, some of the vets may give thier input. If neither of those return favorable results, I'll be glad to try to figure something out for you, but let's see what's out there first.

Just a note - it'll be hard to give a singular in/out phase switch since there are 3 pups. For example: if you phase the Neck, then B+M won't be phased. Give that some thought.

....i dont like the idea of a 4th switch but i do like the 3 individual switches controlling the pups....

the second row of switches would let me turn them off This: "... then to to 3 more switches that are wired ser/off/par..." is a little confusing. By referencing the "TM", a 3 single coil Strat mod, it makes it sound like you want to mod a 3 single coil Strat. However the type of switching function you describe is normally seen only on humbuckers -- the more frequent array is DPDT-On-On-On that does Local Series/Single/Parallel. Consider looking at John Hewitts TM-II on the Schematics board since it will get all arrays you want without the ... what .. 6 or 7 minis you propose. Doesn't the notion of 6 switches conflict with the statement: " ....i dont like the idea of a 4th switch..."". Maybe I am just not understanding where you are trying to go. If you absolute can't stand PPs, and you may (or may not) have a high tolerance for abundant minis, then replace the OoP PP with another mini. That would make 5 minis.

sorry guys about the explination, or lack of i was thinking 3 switches for phase, and 3 for ser/par and i said earlier that i didnt like the idea of the 4th i should have said the 7th switch so you could easly see what phase they were in and then ser or par i dont have a way to post a pic so i will try it on here Bridge PU Mid Pu Neck pu Switch 1 Switch 2 Switch 3 Bridge Phase Mid Phase Neck Phase Switch 4 Switch 5 Switch 6 Bridge mid neck Par/off/ser Par/off/ser par/off/ser Tone pot vol pot output something on the lines of this for the phasing but only with on/on instead of on/off/on switches with the switching of the tone monster after the phase switching (minus the last switch) which would allow the turning on and off of the switches

gfiles,
I've got you. Still, what you are asking for may be difficult - give me a bit to try to figure it out and I'll let you know (unless it's out there already)

ok, I've worked something out, but it will require 3 DP3T switches (a specific kind of DPDT on-on-on that's relatively difficult to find). One thing to note is that this design is series defaulted, which basically means you'll get two pups in series if one is on in parallel and one is on in series. It also means you won't be able to get combinations like N+(MxB) or M+(NxB) where + is parallel and x is series. It will be able to do combinations like Nx(M+B) and Bx(N+M). If you're interested, let me know and I'll try to get it drawn up and posted.

Give me a few days and I'll have it up for you. I'll try to work out a more elegant phase solution too. It's just a matter of time now.

[/URL] I haven't inserted the phasing or volume/tone, but this is the basic switching concept. Take a look and see if you understand what's going on. A quick run-down: 1: the blue arrows indicate what connections are made in the middle position (remember that this isn't a 'standard' on/on/on switch) 2: the right-most set of lugs on each switch 'turns on' the series bus since otherwise you'd have dead spots. The phase switches and volume/tone are very standard - take a look around and you'll find many examples. If you're having trouble, I can point you in the right direction. (Fishing is) I'm here if you need it, but have some fun!
