Hey everyone, just find this site and forum, so far it rocks! I recently got a new American Deluxe strat and am thinkin of putting a Dimarzio Tone Zone S in the bridge, its a humbucker fit for a single coil space. The wiring and all that doesnt seem very difficult, but my concern is with the S-1 switching system and the specialty switching pots that come with it. The volume pot is 250 K, and from the readings i've been doing it seems like you want a 500 K for humbuckers (please correct me if i'm wrong). The volume pot's push button is also doing a lot of the S-1 switching so i dont think i can maintain the S-1 options with a new run of the mill 500 K pot. I got wiring diagrams from fenders site for fat strats with S-1 and they seem to have the same 250 K pot that I currently have. Do you think i should get a new pot, or am I fine with this one? Also if i do get a 500K pot, how will this effect the sound of my two single coils. I geuss if need be i could always take out the S-1 and do some of the mods mentioned at guitarnuts. Well, thanks for the help!

Hi and welcome a'board. I'd leave the 250K in for now. The Tone Zone is a darker sounding pickup, you wouldn't want to brighten it up or anything. Since you're using a SSS Am Dlx, the Tone Zone might be interesting for a fairly powerful overdriving sound in the S-1 switch down series positions. You may have some trouble balancing the sound between the Tone Zone and the two other single coils, (but you may well not care) since the SSS S-1 guitars have quieter pickups than the HSS S-1 guitars (or so the rumors go). I'm not certain of this since I've never compared my SSS one to my HSS one. Good Luck, let us know how it turns out.
