Hello. Recently the pickguard on my bass shattered near the bottom (at the input jack). I cut a bit off and replaced it with a piece of plexiglass. It's held on by one screw at one side. However, there is no room for another screw, due to the fact that it is DIRECTLY over the control cavity. Is there any adhesive that would bond the plexiglass to the body of the guitar?

Are you sure you want to make such a permenant, unprofessional repair? The proper thing to do would be to buy a new pickguard and replace the broken one, no need to butcher the guitar over a $20 pickguard...

I'm sure. I don't care mcuh about how it looks, just about how well it works.

It costs about $50 for a new pickguard around here. (Canada) Too expensive for such minor damage.

would you be better off bonding the edge of the pickguard to the edge of the repair piece?

As long as you're talking about gluing something, why not glue the original broken-off piece? Or is it actually shattered into little shards?

Why not just buy a new pick guard off of ebay? I always think its better to replace the part than glue something to the body of the guitar. Plus, it'll be ugly as a mother if you glue it. Shore up 20 bucks on the bay...

I don't care mcuh about how it looks, just about how well it works. For me, "works" would mean "stays together and guards against attacks by stray picks." The "one screw" part didn't sound all that reliable. I dunno about the shipping, etc., where you're across the border from this company, but I just bought a pickguard from them for under $20, and that was one from their "exotic" line; right colorful. American flags, Canadian flags, lotsa neat designs. www.dancingdragonguitars.comThey have 'em for J-Bass and P-Bass, anyway.

ehm, friends (bros), what Kurt's asking is
.. I think the most suitable one is benzene-based all-purpose adhesive (usually has yellowish orange color). They're strong, doesn't destruct your finish, almost transparent, and usually can be removed without any marks.
