I want to make my own pickguard for my daughters Ibanez. What material should I use, and where do you find such material?

The music shop I work in sells blank pick guard material in small sheets. I am not sure where to get it in Canada but if you are interested, try emailing Ben at Zoot Music for a price. He does internet orders and I think he would send to Canada.

They're generally a plastic, like vinyl or PVC, often laminated. (Some of that stuff can be kinda tricky to cut or drill without it cracking.) There are custom makers who use aluminum (sometimes diamond plate). engraved leather, and maybe even carved wood. But for the most common "blank pickguard material," most of the big suppliers (Warmoth, WD Music, Stewart-MacDonald, etc.) sell plastic sheets in different colors. Just the first page of a Google search turned up an International Luthiers Supply, which will ship to Canada, and a bunch of other links. Some of the others may also ship to Canada, or there may be some suppliers on your side of the border.

I've seen DIY pages that recommend using the wall of a rubbermaid trashcan. Not my first choice, but it seemed to work well for them.

There is always pickguard heaven where they can make you a custom pickguard. They have a great selection of materials and have templates for basically every tyoe of guitar there is..and if they don't you can send them a tracing and they will make it for you. They even do truss rod covers... pickguards.us/index.html
