hello forum i want to (more or less) recreate the guitar of the rock guitar god david gilmour, but for a bit less money (because i am quite on a budget). what i have now: a self built strat with two humbuckers and a maple/rosewood neck and a bad vintage vibrato and three schaller/claim active single coils i thought about buying the emg spc and exg and wire it like david gilmour has, as my pickups should be quite similar to emg sa. i still need a good vibrato (and a nonfloating one), preferably with a short arm. i thought about a wilkinson vsv-g copy or a similar one. and, of cource, i would need a new neck, similar to the fender 57 reissue maple/maple and laquered fretboard (even if i prefer oil finish). this neck should be comfortable, though, for more or less classical chording and soloing, not too thin but not too fat, because i have got very short fingers and damaged wrists. if you know where to get such a neck for not much money, or maybe you can name a cheap guitar with such neck so i can just exchange the neck and sell the guitar again, i would really appreciate that and last but not least, any opinions on planet waves locking autotrim tuners? because i am now a locking tuners only person :-) thanks in advance, roman /edit i have searched a little bit, seems that a sx sst57 neck would do the job. anybody has one to sell? ;D

No my friend, never played satinwood. Flame maple of a Hamer Californian, but not satinwood. But, if it's going to have a gloss finish like maple, you're basically playing the finish, not the wood. (I generally play only rosewood or ebony. Sorry about the bias. ) Oh, how's the hand doing?

Excuse me, my first post here. Hi everybody! ;D But, if it's going to have a gloss finish like maple, you're basically playing the finish, not the wood. (I generally play only rosewood or ebony. Sorry about the bias. ) mlrpa, you're surely playing the wood even with that finish over the fingerboard. Remember the vibrations go along the neck, same way the strings are, so the neck wood is always a big factor, especially the few milimeters on the top (a.k.a. the fingerboard). We can also talk about how thick finishes (especially PU) dampen vibrations, but I think it would be another subject.
