After my guitar was professionally set up, I moved the pups closer to the strings. After playing for a bit I moved up past the 12th fret for a little razzle-dazzle!....*YUCK* It was out of tune big time!!...So I took it back to the shop riding my high horse. It turns out the strings were too close to the pups. The magnets were actually pulling the strings out of tune past the 12th fret! I learned a lesson today my friends, and had to eat some humble pie along the way.

DeepblueWhat the heck kind of pickups are you using? I have a guitar with 2 DiMarzio X2N's ("Magnetic Monsters" as I call them) and I have no tuning trouble all the way up to the 22nd fret. Pictured below - the DiMarzio X2N: You also stated that you had to "eat some humble pie along the way." Yes that is humiliating but, truth be told, I don't mind eating crow at all. ;D

Sign at Austin TexMex ledgedary eatery after Lance and Sheryl called it quits:
"I guess Lance got tired of eating Crow..."
in Wolf's 'image posting' I believe she is sitting on a Kustom "tuck and roll." Surely someone in our little community can do something with that.

....... and Ms Crow is barefoot in that photo. It seems she is carrying on a tradition started by Carly Simon who has been known to go barefoot from time to time. (See photo on her website www.carlysimon.com/)(Yeah, I like barefoot women)

Wolf:
You may be the only man we know to combine large magnets and foot fetishes into the same being. Setting the bar high, indeed. Thanx for the pix.

X2Ns have strong magnets, but IME "stratitis" is more common when the poles are magnets vs. steel that conducts magnetism from a magnet beneath the pickup. I mean, I've never had an X2N, but I've used several ceramic buckers and never had the tuning issues. I HAVE had this happen with strat style single coils.

jester700 PLUS, the fact that Fender single coils (as well as others) have their magnets as distinct point sources. The X2N (and probably all ceramic pickups for that matter) have their magnetic field spread equally across the six strings and the spaces between the strings. So, I'm guessing it is more than just the magnet being closer to the surface. It is probably due to the fact that each string has its own magnet, so to speak, and that magnet has a very concentrated field on each string.

I have 'heard' there are forums to accomodate your ... imagination. I suspect some here to have conducted sorties to that world.

Rune, Hey, it's their world, we're just living in it! ;D True fact and figure: For nearly a decade, all of the major search engines have proclaimed that they have the most pages indexed, but at the same time, they say they have only indexed about 18 to 20% of all pages. Do you suppose you can guess which ones (what content is on them) they haven't indexed? That's right, about 4:1 or 5:1 of the innerweb is comprised of websites where imagination is accomodated.... for a small fee, of course. Me, I'm too busy harassing a bunch of newbies on a forum, there's no time left over to check out those kinds of sites. ;D sumgai

Or maybe search engines don't bother indexing websites that have obscure, arcane or esoteric content. I mean, would a search engine really need a link to information on Indonesian topsoil management?
|
|
|
Post by sumgai on May 7, 2006 0:00:17 GMT -5
Wolf, Yes, they need to have that link, because they can never tell when an Indonesian might want to know about topsoil management procedure in his/her country. I dunno, why does Google index any websites for guitar players? I can find, right here in the very house where I hang my hat, at least one person who thinks that such sites are uninteresting, and a waste of server space and bandwidth. It takes all kinds, doesn't it?
And those "obscure, arcane or esorteric" pages? They're all pr0n, baby, every last one of them. The rule of thumb for staying out of trouble with groups like Parents Against Smut, the government, etc. is: Thou shalt not index pr0n!

sumgai : FYI, there is no known practical procedure in this country You have money = you can violate anything. sumgai: .. but you DO have time to check out your wife(/girlfriend), don't you ;D ? .. and RW, I think it's deepblue's life lesson, about "magnetic pull" .

bam, Checking out is not the same as intentionally violating. In fact, if you don't check something out, then how would you learn how to violate it? Wifey has already been checked out. Now, if I could just check her back in, I'd be all set! (j/k, honeybunch! ;D) sumgai
