How easy is it to remove and then replace frets? My strat's frets are starting to look and feel fairly sorry for themselves.

I had my Strats frets changed to Dunlop 6105 stainless steel. The best move I ever made. I can now bend my notes with much more contol and with ease. I had it done at a shop, and they also changed the nut... It was about $340 Canadian.

Fret work is a specialized field requiring a specific array of tools to make the job the easiest. You can do it with cheaper tools, but without training and a very specific understanding of what you're doing, you're gonna have a hell of a time and possibly do damage to your guitar.
If it looks like doing your own fretwork is the only option, don't let me scare you out of it, just be sure to do a lot of research and be ready to drop a little cash on the appropriate tools.

if you have a couple of spare necks you can try to learn it. if not, try to find a luthier who wouldn't take more than about $80 because for $100 you can as well buy a new neck (and sell your old one on ebay) and for $150 even a new fender neck.

It'll be mid-October before I can take it into a luthier - there aren't any near me at the moment, so I'll have to wait til I'm back at Uni, but I'll bear that in mind; thanks Dunkelfalke

You can get a customized neck to look like it belongs with the guitar (different heads, inlays, woods, fret styles) for a pretty penny. Strat necks at warmoth are $157+shipping for a solid maple neck. Since youre using a strat you could find a new neck for less than refretting yours. But if you get attached to your necks (like I do... I dont like playing other guitars because of their necks) then you would want to have it refretted.
