I'm presently building a Hollow Warmoth Strat in a sunburst. My choices for pickups are either the Fender Samarian Cobalt with the S-1, OR Hot Noiseless (Jeff Becks). For anybody that has experience with both I'd like to hear what your choice would be of the two above mentioned pups, and why. I like both, but am kind of leaning towards the Hot Noiseless. However, I still would like to hear some other opinions. Thanks. Bob

Number 5 needs more input! What is the body wood (the thin laminate top will contribute little tone enhancement)? How much does it weigh? What is the neck wood? What is the fretboard wood? What is the neck back contour? For a very S-1 like wiring scheme that doesn't require the 4PDT S-1 pot/switch (available only on ebay from strip-outs), look here: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=schem&action=display&thread=1163395682&page=1I have a Fender Am Dlx 50th Anniversary Strat in alder with a maple/maple neck. It's quite clean sounding and noise-free. I just finished the Demented TeleBlender using SCN Tele pickups. I like the tone, again clean and quiet. guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=schem&action=display&thread=1140140143I haven't got around to updating the photos of the finished project. I've never used the Strat Hot and/or noiseless pickups. Did you check out pickup reviews on harmonycentral.com?

Chris: OK........hollow alder body, quilted maple top, flamed maple neck in a 59 roundback countour and maple fretboard in the compound radius, Am Std Trem, LSR nut, Schaller lockers and Hipshot Tremconverter. I'm not sure about the weight, but its a LOT less than a solid body....I already have both sets of pickups. I have the hot noiseless in my surf green strat. I LOVE the sound of them. I've also tried the Samarian Cobalts with the S-1 in it. Its a bit more of a vintage sound, at least to my ears, and the S-1 DOES give a few more tonal options, however I generally only use the S-1 bridge pickup in the out of phase mode if I DONT use the 5 regular settings, which IS what I use most of the time. Yes I've seen the wiring sets on ebay that you're talking about, but at this time I really dont need MORE.........I'm just asking for other peoples input to see what their likes/dislikes are and why. I'll probably just end up having to build another one and put whichever pickups I dont use in this guitar in the next one. ;D Boy, life is rough. Bob

Actually, this was a pointer to a wiring scheme that I developed that DOES NOT REQUIRE the S-1 switch (forget about ebay). It covers all but the middle only config (replacing it with the neck+bridge combo) and still gets all of the SSS S-1 "switch down" combos. On a SCN-based guitar I like the series combos with the S-1 (replacement) "switch down". On a Hot Noiseless, the series combos with the S-1 (replacement) "switch down" would be merciless. Your wood choice should make for a mellow sounding guitar. I have a chambered Stratocopy made out of padouk that is quite hot and mellow. guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=music&action=display&thread=1144693179
