1st project- and I'm new to electronics. Been playing accoustics for 20yrs, bu thought I'd venture into electrics. Here's what I'm dealing with. I bought a cloned J5 tele here in Korea ($300). His broad selections of playing styles appealed to me. I play whatever I'm in the mood for that day. Everything from heavy thrash metal to jazz (not much country). The guitar is not bad, but pups are generic and useless. I went ahead and purchased the Fender Enforcer HB for the bridge position- simply based on John5's actual guitar. Can't find the single coil he uses in the neck position, but don't necessarily HAVE to have it. I am open to trying others. What should someone look for when trying to match pickups? I have been looking into SD Hot Rails- they have one that can fit in a single coil slot (in a Strat- would it fit a Tele?) Lots of stuff I don't know, but want to start experimenting. My mistakes shouldn't be nearly as expensive as my mustang tinkering. Thanks, Ryan

Hi Teletinker, and welcome to GuitarNuts! A 'lil puncher is in the "Modern Vintage" set I have in my tele copy. It's a great pup! I always liked my "70's Cortez (Cort) copy, but now I love it. It's quite bizarre to have Tele, Strat, and Jaguar sounds all coming from the same guitar. If you take the time to split the coils or series/parallel them, it's well worth the range of sounds. Just a small word of warning: GFS claims that no pickguard modification is required, but the heavy cloth cord wound around the coils on the Lil puncher is so thick that it can prevent the pickup from seating correctly in the guard, YMMV. Happy Tinkering!!!
