I put my 69 EB3L Gibson bass back in service with parts available. It is basically wired as a les paul-sg. 2 humbuckers with a 3 way switch. 2 vol 2 tones. When both volumes are full it loses output unless one or the other vol is dropped a bit. When on either pup the output and tone is great. I tried the polarity swap, nada. Both wiring and installation of one pup position was changed but same symptoms.
I also have a new epiphon les paul bass with the same issues, straight form the factory like this problem, but wthout the 3 way switch? Any ideas?

Hmmm, it sure seems like a phasing issue.
How many wires (including shield) are there coming from each pickup?
Do you have a schematic or wiring diagram?

Kurt (Russell), Having just looked at your pictures of this thing in the Gallery forum, I was reminded that I never answered you on this thread. Shame on me. And FWIW, here, take one of these...... it's a nice, warm welcome to the NutzHouse! ;D Chris gave you the usual first-and-most-likely diagnosis, but now that I've mulled it over, I'd be more inclined to think in terms of an accidental (not to mention, improper) loading issue. Here's a posting where Chris expostulated on what happens when additional resistance is inserted into a pickup circuit: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=wiring&action=display&thread=1196872644&page=1#1197440266Read that whole post and digest it, I have a sneaking suspicion that it may help you out here. If it doesn't make sense, then by all means, ask questions! You can read the rest of that thread for context, if you wish, but that one post is what's germane here and now, for you. Let us know what you find out, OK? HTH sumgai
