I tried some DR strings like that, JohnH. Couldn't stand 'em. After a while, that stuff between the windings came out. Been using Dean Markley ever since.

D'addario XL 10/46 strings were what i played till recently. they're good but have a good amount of tension which is good if you like that but isn't if you don't. and you can quote me on that!

well i had tried MUSICIANSFRIEND premiums 10s and liked the tension better so bought a pack of 10 for $20. good strings but it seems like the non-wound ones discolor fast. i'm not sure if it's oxidation, the nickel wearing off, or just discoloration that doesn't affect tone/play. i noticed it on the 1st set from that pack so i'm still trying to assess that situation.
i do like their tension better. lighter that D'ADDARIO but not as wiry as ERNIE BALL.

could anyone suggest a decent set of strings for my acoustic guitar (i like acoustic strings but thin ones) im using Martins right now and i dont like them at all, i originally had (i think it was "DeVinci" strings) im used to Ernie Balls so anything near those for acoustics would be cool.

well, i like playing w/ electric strings on acoustics--at least 10s preferably with a decent amount of tension like D'Addarios. it's easier to fret and a better sound too--if you like a sparkly tone.

well i dunno my guitar could be a special case (its a travel guitar) but i just didn't get much tone outa electric strings. the strings that came on it sounded outstand, these martin strings are huge though (bottom is a .12 and top is .64!!!) and it kinda dulls the tone(in my opinion)

yeah, that's why i don't like huge strings for electric OR acoustic--ends up sounding dull. that's also why i use electric strings for acoustic. but electrics on acoustics have less volume and it's not everyone's thing either.

I use to enjoy the old peavey .009's but cant seem to find them anywhere. I use Ernie Ball Super Slinky strings now. Fender Bullets are pretty good also. Being a metal player and using the floyd rose as much as I do, I should use heavier strings but I grew up on the 9's.

Fender Standard Tension Bullets, 9-42. Sound really nice on my Squier, I can bend the daylights out of them, and they last forever.

that's also why i use electric strings for acoustic. I wonder if you can do that the other way around...? Run acoustic strings on an electric? Anyone ever tried that?

Yeah when i was about 10 or 11, i thought :
"gee these brass wraps sound and feel so nice on my sister's acoustic. i think i'll try them on my teisco del rey!"
sound ok through the air, but nothin' through the amp. ------wait a minute! ---- nylon, brass -- no magnetic materials like iron or nickel.
Doooooooh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was using Ernie Ball Super Slinky Pinks on my electric until I spotted the 10 pack of musician's Friend strings at $1.99 a pack in the exact same gauge for each string. I'm going to give them a try. Acoustic's are still Martin's or Fender strings.

ive had bot every string size made under .70. .64 just barely fits in my floyd rose bridge. i found the thicker the set, the more tension required.also the heavier the sound.ie, .010 for E has alot of sustainance, but makes bends harder to pull and snaps easier under the pressure.a .009 bends like a grass in the wind, but won't ring out as long.thereby,i would say the set to use depends on your particular style and preferance.a .56 to .009 is heavy rock chord and high lead quality.always great for rockin.

I personally like thicker strings because I love my cleans with that deep, piano-tone bassists seem to like. This has had me looking a long time at baritone guitars, with the intention of stringing them up with the thickest set of strings that will stand it and tuning them standard... the notes will be the same but imagine the -voicing!- Schecter sells a guitar called the Hellcat VI, with a 30" scale length, it comes tuned exactly one octave below a standard guitar. I blame my low tuning fetish on modern influences. XD
