I got a chance yesterday to play a unfinished neck. No, I dont mean not complete! ;D
It had no finish what- so- ever. I must say it was an amazing feeeling! I do hard bends, and really twist the neck hard when I play. It made me grip the neck tighter without alot of effort, and felt very comfortable in my hands. I know its not good for the neck not to have a finish applied to it. Warping, staining etc.. I guess thats why only the rich rock stars play them. They can afford a new neck every year or so. If anyone out there gets a chance, or had tried one let me know what you think?

Hi deepblue, Uh, sorta / kinda had an opportunity to get a general feel - at St. John's Music (Eglinton & Brentcliffe, T.O.) I had the chance to play a Martin that was unfinished ... er, well you know what I mean. I agree, it is a unique feeling. Very "silky" ... meaning my hands were never slowed down by the "grip" of the finish. However, it was an acoustic guitar and so I can't comment from a hard bends and twists aspect. See ... sorta / kinda. But I liked it - I know that much. Dan

not every wood needs to be lacquered so you can order unfinished necks and be not afraid of warping.
