I know that for most of us, music is our first love or, at least, very close to the top of the list. However, many of us have other passions that absorb us nearly as much and, for me, one of them is Politics. Or, rather, Anti-Politics. I know that others on the boards have similar interests. For example, I know that Leader and I may favour different amps, (DSL and TSL, respectively,) but we have very similar opinions of The Usurper Bush. Hell, for a lot of the old farts like me, Music and Anti-Politics go hand in hand! Much of the music when we were kids was trying to effect social change. Eve of Destruction, Won’t Get Fooled Again, Revolution and Volunteers being some classic examples.
The thing is: I don’t think I’ve been happy with the way things have been going in the United States since I was about 10, or old enough to be aware of such things. I’m 49 now, and things sure haven’t improved. Most of my friends say, “Why get upset over it; there’s nothing we can do about it?” Well, my friends, if we can’t, who the f
k can? No, I’m afraid it’s either us or nobody. The Politicians sure as hell aren't going to help, and just like all those socially aware musicians who came before us in the Sixties, we are in a unique position to be influential in effecting social change, through the songs we write and what we have to say in them.
In an effort to provide a place for political thought, (or anti-political thought, as it were,) I’m trying to start a board. It’s called Free America. There’s not much there yet, but I’m hoping others will have something to contribute, and I will be posting more over time. I think it is important for our friends in other countries as well. After all, the effects of the asinine decisions and policies coming out of Washington don't end at the United States border. I don’t know if this thing will work, but I’m willing to try anything to make the United States, and indeed the rest of the world, a better place.
