I have a pickup that the wires have been cut short on and I have a question about what kind of wire I was going to use to extend them? I picked up some 22 gauge hook-up wire the other day that is copper and insulated and was thinking this would do the trick. What do you say?

Most pickup windings are #42 to #44 AWG solid wire. From 43 to 22 is 21 gauge sizes.
Since the cross sectional area of wire doubles/halves for every 3 sizes, that is 2^7 or 128 times smaller in current carrying capability.
#22 AWG will be fine.
