Heres a pickle...
A friend of mine dropped his Les Paul SG into a swimming pool last night. we were all horrified watching his pride and joy slowly descend to the bottom. *sidenote* [glow=red,2,300]He drinks too much, and thinks hes much cooler then he actually is[/glow]!
I told him to pat it dry and hang it up for a week. The water will evapourate and it should be fine...
What do you guys think?

What do you guys think? deep, "Sound"s like "sound" advice to me (although, if it has been shielded, the shielding may have to be redone if it loses it's adhesiveness). It wasn't under for that long, right? My sister spilled a container of water in her TV and followed your advice ... it worked fine after it dried out. Dan

DD...
no. no...he retreived it right away. It has an ever so slight bump on the end where it hit the bottom, but nothing to worry about.

I might play my Squire '51 at pools edge...but NEVER a Les Paul. That's the great thing about having a couple decent cheap guitars, you're not out much if you do something stupid after a few drinks.
I imagine he doesn't think he's so cool now.

I just shake my head!

deep, From now on, whenever he pulls that thing out and plays it, give it a moment, and the ask him "Say, are you sure that neck ain't just a touch warped? Sounds kinda off to me, eh?" That'll drive him nuts for years! And think of the bragging rights you'll have with your grandkids, about how you drove ol' whats-his-name to the nuthouse!! ;D I foresee good times in the offing. sumgai

Then offer him $50.00 for it. Don't forget to duck. I've done a fair bit of drinking with a guitar in hand, sometimes at poolside. I'm STILL trying to imagine the circumstance that led to the dip in the pool. Must have been quite a party. PH

To be honest, A Les Paul SG does not interest me. It has too much of an Angus Young vibe. Now a Les Paul, Jimmy Page style??....I may try and con him out of it!

(I could SWEAR that I had posted this reply earlier today, but now I don't see it....... <cue "Twilight Zone" theme music>) deep, What do I think? I think that if you wake up some morning and find your dirt bike snow-mobile has gone for a dunk in the swimming pool, then you'll know for sure that your neighbor is a fellow GuitarNut on this here forum! sumgai

Obviously this guitar did not have the 'flotation chambers' which are now provided on '07 LP's
Im not kidding either. Check out this youtube of a Gibson factory tour - evidence at 1.53 minutes:

Rune... It sank like a stone. It even thumped the bottom. Whether it would have stayed there or not is another question. It was retrieved rather quickly!
Followup...
The guitar is up and running, and all is well....do you smell chlorine?

Mike.. I hear ya. If you knew this guy youd understand. Hes a great guy but hes a loose cannon after a few brews! He has tried over the years to borrow equipment from me.....No way! Im very fussy and paticular about my guitars, amps etc. I just know it would be damaged when I got it back. Borrow my tools?...Borrow my car?....sure! My guitar equipment? No-No-No!
