I'm looking for a brand of strings that have a gauge of 12 - 56 and also have a wound G string. Anyone know of a company that makes what I'm looking for?

bean, I can't find any companies that advertise that particular gauge set, it seems that the tensions don't match up. What you're asking for would be like a 'skinny top, heavy bottom', only to the Nth degree! If you find nada, you can still beat the game, so to speak, by buying single strings of the gauges you want. My first stop for such shopping would be www.juststrings.com. HTH sumgai

Thanks Sumgai,
Earnie Ball makes a set with these gauges but without the wound G. I'll skip the G for now, I am curious about it though.

DD, Yeah, that's bean's problem - nearly all the sets with a 12 high-E string go up to only 52, not 56. Quite out of character, Ernie Ball's 12-56 set has a plain (24!!). Sure, that would work, but most players of this size prefer a wound 3rd, which is usually the same gauge, a 24. (A full-on funny, EB calls this set "Not Even Slinky"! ;D) BTW, bean, are you gonna pull an SRV, and tune down a half-step for that blues-on-steroids tone? sumgai

Well, if you can live with a .013 e string, I'd go for D'Addario ECG26 Chromes They also have them in regular XL's with a slightly bigger D string (.036). My "regular" strings are the XL 110W's (wound G .018), I'll never go back to a straight G. Over the last year, I've been trying a bunch of strings, but ended right back with D'Addario. I've found that on the Tele; the bigger the string, the more I like the sound. I've got the above chromes on the Tele now and if you're looking for that early Beatles twang on a your axe ('cause you can't afford a Country Gent ), there's no better string. They are also the closest thing to a "cheat" you can have playing slide (I suck at slide, but I can manage it with the chromes) You could pop for these and put on a single .012 as the "Gai" pointed out, but it might sound a bit.....off...YMMV. The Chromes last forever and have uncanny tuning stability (kind of like bass strings, the longer they're on, the better they sound).

I'm not sure if I'll tune down or not. I'm going to see what my neck does first. If I have to I will.
Thanks for the info UX. I'll try those out.

I know the Marley Jimi Hendrix 11-52 has the optional wound G. I haven't seen a 56 version tho.

I found this on Webstings: www.webstrings.com/electric_guitar_strings.htmlThe heavy jazz set goes from .013-.056 with a wound G string. I've never used their guitar strings, but their bass strings are amazing for the money. Hey, at $2.99/set you can't go too far wrong... If they don't work out you can hang Xmas lights from them...
