I just got my new rails in mail today and hooked them up..sounded good..I decided then to wire it up for series /parallel...I used the schematics from this site.. www.1728.com/guitar.htmIt worked and i could hear difference when switching switch..one was thicker and other was brighter..and there was no hum...but the level was real low..I know there is suppose to be some level drop but it was like turning level halfway down..I hooked up my digital multimeter to it and with switch in warm sound it was showing 4.7..when I switched it to bright sound and measured it ..it read 2980...its suppose to be 12.4,,and it is I checked it after I rewired it back without switch..Is that schematic on the site the correct way to wire DPTP switch??If its not can some one point me to the right schematic to wire it up for serial/parallel??

Ok..I was looking around..and there seems to be more than one way to do this series/parallel mod..,,I found another schematic that is totally different than other one.. www.guitar-repairs.co.uk/guitar_wiring_modifications_2.htmHow many different ways are there to do this wiring???which one is the right one??

STK-
There are several different ways of wiring this mod. The first site you linked to, "1728.com" is our member Wolf's site, and that diagram should work just fine.
You said:
Was this in the series position (i.e., "warm") or the parallel, or in both positions? If it's only in one or the other position, sounds like you're only getting one coil in that setting. If it's low in both positions, I have no idea what might be wrong.
ChrisK's "brain scan" procedure should probably be your first step- Look in the References board here for that topic.

Yeah..it was both positions that were low levels...After I unwired it I tried to just wire it as split coil...but I couldnt tell any different in sound..it was lower level but not as low as when i tried to wire it in series/parallel..in split coil it sounded nothing like a single coil....I wired it up exactly as schematic..maybe its this cheap $3 radio shack DPDT switch...anyone know of site of other forum where I can listen to a guitar with mod??so i can see how its suppose to sound like..

Hi strat, I don't know if this is going to help your cause, but one of members, petros, wired his guitar using one of wolf's wiring options ... I don't think it's what you've done, but it does have one bitchin' sound clip that's worth a listen. You can read about it here: guitarnuts2.proboards45.com/index.cgi?board=sounds&action=display&thread=3302I hope that helps. DD

His sound great...But mine sound nothing like a that l..At first I was just going to unwire switch and wire it normal..but since I driller hole and had switch in..I decided to just use it ..I went a head and wired it for split single coil..but it sounds nothing like a single coil..it get slightly..and I mean slightly brighter..you have to listen real close to tell..and it drops in volume slightly..and the 60 cycle hum..but it dosent sound anything like a single coil..You can use a DPTP for just splitting coil right??I just hooked up 2 wires to middle lug and ground to lug underneath it..so im using just one side of the switch??I dont need to use a jumper or any cross jumping of lugs for it..??Would it matter much it being a rail type humbucker like GFS Lil Killer.??Im pretty sure as popular as his pickups are many people have used coil split on them.. I cant believe Im screwing up just wiring 3 wires...lol...
