Gallagher looks to Spinal Tap record for drummers

Ah, yes ... the latest news that you have now become so dependent on here at GN2.

Noel Gallagher wants to beat spoof band Spinal Tap's record for drummers.

The Oasis guitarist jokingly told latest sticksman Chris Sharrock - who formerly performed with the band's arch rival Robbie Williams - not to get too comfortable behind the kit on the opening night of the band's world tour in Seattle, US, on Tuesday (26.08.08).

He jokingly compared Oasis to the comedy rock band - whose 1984 fictional documentary saw a rotating line-up of drummers, who all met untimely ends.

Noel said: "We're trying to break Spinal Tap's record."

Oasis are already onto the fourth drummer of their career. Chris follows original member Tony McCarroll, Alan White and Zak Starkey - the son of Beatles legend Ringo Starr. Noel added that his joke may be lost on lead singer brother Liam, who thought that Spinal Tap were a real band.

Noel said: "He thought they were for real. We went to see them and I told him, 'You do know they are actors?' He said, 'I'm not f***ing having that', and walked off. He's never watched Spinal Tap since."

When I saw the title of this thread, I immediately thought of this Gallagher.
I could imagine him making an instructional video on how to play the drums with the "Sledge-O-Matic™"
That's right, no more sissified drumsticks for a real drummer. Let the people know you can really put some feeling into your songs. No more struggling to be heard over the other band members. And hecklers would think twice (even thrice) before casting aspersions on your band.

The Oregonian interview

In January 2005, the Oregonian’s entertainment section printed a short interview with Gallagher where he gave scathing reviews about many of the top comedic performers in America. He criticized stand-up performers including David Letterman, Robin Williams, Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks, and Michael Keaton. Gallagher expressed frustration over Hanks and Keaton’s success, remarking that they were millionaires while he was renting a condo. While criticising Jay Leno and Letterman, he expressed surprise that they never invited him to appear in their shows, citing that Johnny Carson never liked him, but still booked him.

Gallagher reserved special wrath for Comedy Central’s list of the 100 Greatest Stand-ups of All Time, where he was listed as #100, just below Janeane Garofalo. Gallagher insulted the list as a whole, stating that when reading it he “was trying to find anyone I ever heard of.” He went on to claim that he had invented the concept of the one-person comedy show on cable television.

Paddy Power bookmakers are offering good odds on Oasis reuniting for an awards ceremony in February.

Paddy Power are offering punters 5/1 on Liam and Noel Gallagher re-uniting to pick up a gong at the NME Awards this February. They’re also offering odds of 8/1 of the pair coming to blows at the event.

Sharon McHugh, a spokesperson for Paddy Power commented: 'Oasis are old time favourites of the NME Awards, so it’s really no surprise that they’ve been nominated. The big question for music fans this year is not what bands will win but more will there be fisticuffs at this year’s ceremony?'
