Obviously, there is some software somewheres that attempts to ascertain the topic of our threads, and then posts a correspondingly relevant banner ad. A topic mentioning Teles will generate a bunch of Tele ads, for example. But the software is easily confused. I notice that, whenever "grounding" of a guitar is discussed, we seem to get the same ad, over and over, for some mega-industrial style grounding straps. Had a laugh this morning re-reading an old post where Unk was discussing his "native language being Merkin" (i.e., "American"). Another member thought that was a reference to a Merkin, a Medieval type of wig for one's nether regions. At the top of the page was an ad for women's wigs! Now, since I mentioned "wigs", we'll probably get the same banner ad above this thread. I wonder if there's a magic number of references that have to be made before the software kicks an ad in. If I repeat the word "Tele" 20 times in a row, will that knock out the wig ad? EDIT: After further reflection, this board has a bunch of aging long-haired rockers, now losing their hair . . .Maybe the ad for women's wigs wasn't so off the wall after all! ;D 2nd EDIT: Now I see this post about banner ads generated an ad to make your own banner ads!

;D ;D ;D Boy did you open a can o' worms ;D Shortly after signing up here at GN2 I noticed one of those ads - "Get A Free American Standard Telecaster " . Of course I clicked on it ( thinking " boy these guitar nuts are cool " ;D) It was a market research survey , & I went thru several pages of products where I was to click yes or no regarding my interest . I clicked no to all of them , only to be told I had to click yes to at least one . So I clicked on , and applied for , and was approved for a Discover card . ;D Wasn't over . Several pages later I realized it would be cheaper just to buy a Tele , so I gave up & closed out of it . You shoulda seen my Spam folder ! Every day I had to delete a couple hundred ads . Now ( months later ) the ads have slowed to a crawl...... The Discover card ? Yeah , I got it - just ask Stew Mac , Warmoth, Guitar Parts Resource , About right .................... Whew . lpf3
