A few years ago I was in a junk shop looking for albums to purchase. I found a copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I already had a copy but for 25 cents I figured what the heck. I took it home and played it on my turntable, hanging out with my brother, and we both kept hearing bits and pieces that we had never heard before. The voice tracks that are in the background, just people talking, seemed to be more often. There are even extra instrument parts. Not much just a few extra guitar bends and little riffs. We decided to check it out on any other copies of the album that we had. Couldn't find any of these additions on other vinyl, tape, or CD copies. This LP was released by Capitol Records. If I'm not mistaken the original was released by Harvest, maybe Reprise but I'm pretty sure it was Harvest. Anyone else found this release? Anyone know what I'm talking about? Anyone think I'm not crazy?

My copy- late 70's vintage- is on Harvest Records, "marketed, promoted and distributed by Capitol Records". Presumably, at some point they did away with the Harvest label and just issued it as a Capitol release. IIRC, there were a couple of different audiophile vinyl remasterings during the '80's, maybe you have one of those. And the early CD transcriptions of the album were horrible, it took a few years when CDs first hit the market for recording engineers to figure out the digital technology. It was re-remastered again for CD in the late "80s or early '90s with much better results. So, what you're comparing it to may matter as well. BTW, I pulled my copy out to check the label and found I still have the poster folded up inside the sleeve.

My copy is actually a quad-recorded LP from 1973 on EMI (Australia)... and as well as the poster of the band there's also the poster of the pyramids in blue... I've yet to do the listening comparison with my CD (I don't know when it was produced), which is also an EMI (Australia) pressing but has the 'Harvest' logo on it...

Yeah, OzBoomer is right, there were 2 posters. I have the one with the headshots of the band, the one of the pyramids was in a yellowish green. I used it as a background for an aquarium in my dorm room in college.
It all comes flashing back to me now . . . ;D ;D

I had an original copy without the inserts but I let my brother have that, he was living life as one of the Have Nots. The only date I can find on my version of the LP is 1973, which is the original release date. I can't find the date my LP was released.

Its pretty freaky... I have plans to, actually! My wife loves Pink Floyd (NO, the band, you dirty beast) so I'm sure she'd like to try it. I only have the album on CD though, so I'm not sure when to press 'play'- is it when the MGM lion roars, or something?

Yeah, start it when Leo roars. This is one of the times when an LP is more precise, assuming one has some deejay skills dropping the needle.
I saw this done at a late-night movie sponsored by some radio station. From what little I remember of that evening, it was pretty neat.

Cool. Is it THAT accurate that you would need to pinpoint it so well? If exact precision is required, when during the roar? Start, finish, in the middle? I am only after the finest experience here- I'm not a complete geek. No, honest...

Well, I don't know that it has to be that precise. It's just that a CD takes a sec or two to spool up.
You could start the CD and use the pause button right at the beginning for more precision, I would think. Still, try it and see.

i know that this has been collecting dust for a while, but about two years ago i read a book entitled Take a Walk on the Dark Side: Rock and Roll Myths, Legends, and Curses by R. Gary Patterson. it has a chapter on the dark side of oz.
also, the biggest theatre in my city did this w/ a projector and a $250,000 sound system. one of the best things ive seen in a while.

Y'know, I heard that if you get stoned enough, "The Best of Lawrence Welk" syncs up uncannily with the movie "Taxi Driver".
Spoooooooooooooky....
