OK, let me preface this by saying this is admittedly a crazy idea . . . I was guilty of thinking, always a dangerous proposition in my case. When I was a kid, in the 1960's, all the families in our neighborhood would get together occasionally for an old-fashioned potluck dinner. Everyone would bring a dish for all to share. It was cheap entertainment since no one person bore the brunt of the cost or the preparations. Later, in the 1970's, there was a trend for awhile to have "progressive dinner parties". The guests would go to one house for the salad course, to another house for the soup course, another home would serve the entree, etc. Now, I have quite a few miscellaneous guitar parts around that I will probably never use, Many are Strat parts. I suspect others among the group likewise have their respective "stashes". So I'm thinking, why don't we all collectively, progressively build a guitar? Everyone wanting to participate would donate a part or two to the effort, or agree to provide some time and skills in building and wiring it. Various people could do different subassemblies, and then all would be sent to someone for the final assembly. When it was finished, we could pass it around to all the participants to play. The guitar would be photographed wherever it went, like the Stanley Cup or the Travelocity Gnome. Obviously, there would be shipping costs involved, but just like a potluck, no one would bear the brunt. Each contributor would only have to send it on again to the next guy or gal. Getting a donated (decent) neck and body would be the main hurdle. If there's any interest, I'll work on one or the other of those . . . Clearly, there would need to be some degree of trust and honor among all for this to work. But I'm wondering just what we might come up with?? So, am I crazy-thinking here or what? Having run this up the proverbial flagpole, I leave it to all y'all to salute or take potshots, whatever you may feel is appropriate.

Well, ux is a'board, but otherwise- stone silence! Not even a Bronx cheer . . . So I'll assume it's not only a crazy idea but apparently boring and uninteresting as well.

Whoa there, don't take it so hard! I assure you, there's many a bronx cheer raised 'afore this computer table!
I'm playing the 'Atlantic ocean' card on this one- by the time my spares have found their way over, and the guitar has found its way back for a strum, we'll be talking more than a few postage stamps along the way.
And after all, it could get complicated, what with all the alimony...

Sorry, that's me slipping into American idiom again. A "Bronx cheer" means loud booing . . . .
But you're right, shipping would be the bugaboo. Don't know what it costs to ship a guitar across the pond.
Anyone friendly with someone who flies for UPS or Fedex? ;D

Well it is a crazy idea, but certainly not boring or uninteresting.
Its a bit impractical to send it down below the equator, and in any case, by the time 4real and I had installed subversive electronics it would never be allowed back into the country.
But if it went ahead, I' d be happy to contribute a small on-board JFET buffer circuit if wanted, made into a board about 1" sq and posted to a location of your choice.
cheers
John

A) Befriend Fedex pilot B) Bribe Customs to look the other way . . . It does get somewhat complicated. Maybe we should divide it up into a 3-way competition- UK/EU vs. USA/CAN vs. OZ- with a vote for the winner among the 3 guitars. Just think- trans-continental bragging rights, in perpetuity . . . ;D And, I don't think the Oz-based members would be at a disadvantage. Y'all may outnumber us Yanks around here anymore!

Hee Hee! The term Bronx Cheer over here is mostly used to sell whoopee cushions to kids. In case they have a different name stateside, lets just say that WAS refering to a loud booing, of sorts...

I believe Archie Bunker identified a Bronx cheer as what most folks would call a razzberry (Circle index finger and thumb around mouth, and Raz with your tongue).
I don't know that I wanted to work on the potluck guitar as much as to offer to Donate to it.

I like the idea and I've got some things I'd throw in the hat. I have a red mexican tele body thats already been "tamed." It's already assembled, but I'm not in love with the current incarnation. I also have a GFS onboard tube screamer that hasn't been used. Mini toggles, push/pulls, lots of copper shielding tape. I'd gladly donate to a worthy cause. I'd also like to see up close some of the work I know you guys are capable of.
And just to put my 2 cents in, I think the final resting place of this potential monster should be hooked to an amp in Newey's man cave.

I think I've been sort of lucky on that front, and probably have both the worst and best mother-in-law going. She was apparently so unbearable that I have never even had to meet her. That's reason enough to stick with just the one wife! Not a euphemism for a fart, then?

Actually, in a way you're both right. I was wrong calling it "booing". Bronx CheerAnd NomadH- Thanks for the vote of confidence on this project, but our overseas members have raised quite valid points about shipping costs. Not everyone can afford to lay out $40 on a lark. And there might be some customs issues as well. It's not worth doing without at least the potential participation of all. So, this idea is kind of "on hold", pending other/better ideas or options.
