I decided to try to play some slide guitar... unfortunately, I don't own a slide! But I found a polished rock that I bought some time ago at a museum. I found that if I lay the guitar in my lap, I could manipulate the stone and get a decent sound... (?)... If you're so inclined, feel free to comment on this short piece: Quarry's Attempt at Slide

rock digger, Needs more cowbell! ;D Seriously, Ronnie Montrose would either be proud of you, or he'd be getting upset that you copped his "Open Fire" riff. And not too shabby for the slide work itself. Just remember, it's all about what's inside of you - making that come out so that it tells others what's you're thinking/feeling, that's the musician's goal. It doesn't matter what tools you use, pick/slide/fingernails/switchblade*/whatever, if you can get that part down, you're golden. "I give it an 93, Dick, it's got a beat that makes me wanna dance!" sumgai * No kidding, we had a sort-of young lady come into the Open Mic/Jam session about three weeks ago, and she hauls off and impersonates Yngwie Malmsteen playing emo! Part way through, instead of picking up a slide, she reaches into a back pocket and whips out a 6" long switchblade, and proceeds to tear the house down! We had to call the paramedics in, there were so many jaws with shoelace prints on the undersides...... ;D I wonder why nobody would go up and talk to her afterwards..........

Craftsman 3/8"/1/2" drive 11/16" to 13/16" deepwall socket. CK you must have pencil sized fingers to fit one in a 3/8" socket.

Yes, that makes more sense. Busted. I guess now I will have to start actually reading the rest of sentences. Almost as bad as reading instructions before you tear into something. Still it was funny imagining you with pencil fingers.

I like copper pipe on my acoustic - it has a nice drag to it. For the electric, I experimented around a lot with different diameters and thicknesses of glass. The thin ones are worthless for feel and tone, but the thicker ones are heavy - and since I don't have a guitar dedicated to slide playing (yet) I have problems keeping it from banging the fretboard. Best slide I ever found was a spacer of some sort that my stepson got with some bicycle parts. Just a little bigger in diameter than standard copper pipe, it's nice & light, has good tone, and it's anodized in a blue that works really well with the color of both my Tele and my Squier (How cool is that?).

I have a slightly modified navy anti-aircraft (i think) bullet shell. Its large and made of brass - to get it to fit on my finger i had to cut a bit of the tip off, but it works nicely... Quite hardcore, too...
Just wish i knew some good slide licks...
