When playing through my Marshall(tm) or Fender(tm) amplifiers......I use all BOSS(tm)--TU-2 Chromatic Tuner, AC-2 Acoustic Simulator, CE-5 Chorus Ensemble and a OC-3 Super Octave. All of these have been extreemely reliable and with the optional AC adapter and daisy-chain I dont go through a TON of 9V batteries.
All of these Stompers sound great through a clean amp and really add some spice and punch to an overdriven high gain setting.
I also use a DS-2 Turbo Distortion pedal as well, but it does'nt see as much action as all the rest.
If you have read some of my other posts, you will already know that I use 2 different Line-6(tm) amplifiers too. The digital effects accessable on these two amps with the specialized pedal-boards is far more advanced than the ones I have mentioned. There are literally millions of different effect combinations available in series or seperately. The particular tone you seek is achievable, but it takes some fiddling......no, not fiddling.....experimenting. ;D
I really like trying out all the different frequencies and if I run into one I like while I am just plinking around I can store and name it with just toe taps

I use the ultra-cheap Korg ax100g, pretty good modulation FXs, some neat distortion, not much gain though.. So ended up with Boss SD-1 Super Distortion. Getting an Ibanez WD7 wah, too.

Lately I've trimmed down my setup. I used to have a row of about 8 pedals but now I'm down to a Dunlop Crybaby, MXR ZW-44 Wylde Overdrive, MXR Phase 90 and Boss CH-1 Super Chorus. All of these are modded except the ZW-44. Sometimes I'll use my homemade boost.
I have a few others that I haven't been using. Boss DD-2 Digital Delay, Boss BF-2B Flanger and a Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive (modded). The only rack piece I own is a Rocktron Intellifex LTD and I used to use that all the time in the effects loop of my Marshall but haven't used it in several years.
The ZW-44 is the best sounding overdrive I have ever played through. It adds just the right amount of punch and yet it still lets the natural sound of the amp come through. Can't say that for a lot of other OD pedals. My SD-1 would seem to color the sound a bit.

i've got a Fender tuner, Kramer compressor, Ibanez Tube Screamer,Thomas Organ Cry Baby. and a Digitech RP200. I got a one spot power adapter that powers everything except the Digitech and the Cry Baby. I find I use the Digitech and Tube Screamer most. I almost forgot a Fender PT100 tuner.

My favorite accessory costs nothing. Its a set of midi files I downloaded off the net, which run on the computer. Theres one for the sound of each open guitar string and they go 'ding...ding...ding..' (etc, you get the general idea). It makes it really easy to tune up quickly.
A digital tuner might be better, but you cant beat this for price!.
Conversely, the most useless accessory I ever had was a set of 'pitch pipes', which I got when i was 16 with my first guitar. I could never relate the sound they made (like a goose being strangled after smoking too many cigarettes) to any tuned or untuned sound on my guitar. I think I lost them about 25 years ago.
cheers
John

jdtogo - those tune-up midi files I found here: members.optushome.com.au/bagmanoz/Tuner.htmIf you want to save them, just right click on the button for each string and go: 'save target as' to download. They are very small. tegards John

I don't use many stompboxes, but I do have a few. I usually use a Peavey CS2 Compressor-Sustainer in front of whatever amp I'm playing.
If I want effects I use a Peavey TubeFex, which is an all-in-one rackmount unit, and it's attendant floor controller. It even has a pair of tubes for the tube OD and Distortion effects. I usually run it through its own power amp and stereo cab with my main amp dry. If you haven't tried a Wet/Dry setup, it's pretty addicting. You can do some things with a Wet/Dry that would get you lost if you tried it all through one amp.

The only effect I own is a Boss Blues Driver, I only use that when I have the misfourtne of playing thru my pratice amp instead of my Bel Air. Otherwise its guitar>cable>amp, no reverb sligtly overdriven...but I only play Jazz and Blues for the most part, so I really have no need for fancy stompboxes and such, my amp gives me all the tone I could desire

With my strats from the guitar I run into a DS-1 into a RP-200 into a Frontman 25R into a Crate 412 Cab.
With my StageMaster and Tradition Les Paul Copy I run straight into a Crate 120 watt amp. I'm considering a Dunlope Crybaby for the Tradition and Stagemaster rig.

I seem to be going on a less is more stint, personally. Normally I play my 7-string through my V-Amp 2 into a bass amp with a tweeter, and use everything on the V-Amp. But one day I just got this strange impulse, now I'm playing it into my Marshall MG30 with nothing more than my tube overdrive pedal and my loop station, seeing what I can be forced to create inside the "box."

ZOOM 2100 Multi FX DOD FX52 Classic Fuzz DOD VibroThang (Leslie/trem) ElectroHarmonix Pulsar (tremolo) Morley WVO Wah/Volume Boss DS-1 Distortion Boss OD-3 Overdrive DOD FX90 Analog Delay Boss DD20 Gigadelay Boss RV-3 Reverb/Delay Boss PH-3 Phaser Ibanez CCL Dual Chorus Ibanez FLL Flanger now that i've made a list, i'm almost embarassed at having so many pedals. i mean, i knew i had a lot cuz my homemade pedalboard is 3 ft. long and has 2 rows of pedals, but listing em all just makes me feel like a geargeek. despite all of the pedals, i do actually play a LOT of stuff totally dry and just a bit o'verb--or w/ the OD-3 set to overdrive depending on attack. i do use the trem and delays fairly frequently but all of the modulation/eq type effects are used pretty conservatively. the ZOOM is used for stuff not on the board--tuner, slow attack, etc., but also to play around with--like running its reverb into distorted wah, fuzzing out its ring mod, etc. walls of noise can be fun!! oh, and a MUST amongst my "accessories": a "curly-q" coil cable. i trip over the straight ones!

you seem to have a lot of delay .. playing The Edge ?

you seem to have a lot of delay .. playing The Edge ? it certainly seems that way, doesn't it? but i don't play Edge-style much. mostly spacey delays like Dave Gilmour or My Bloody Valentine and Godspeed You Black Emperor (if you happen to know those bands?!?). or longer (700-900ms) rhythmic delays. the RV-3 i have mostly for the reverb. i use the Fx90 for dirty dark sounds. you can get a 100% wet signal with it so you can get some really nice washes or mandolin-style repeats fading into oblivion....plus oscillation and aother analog oddities! for most everything else i use the DD20. the analog setting on it (based on the Boss DM2) is so friggin authentic it's amazing and the digidelay is pristine. plus a really cool reverse and 23-sec looper! i love it!! i actually never used delay much till i got the DD20. but now i prefer delay for getting a spatial effect without coloring the dry signal, as opposed to phase, flange, etc.

How useful do y'all think tremolo is as an effect? I've been wanting a new effect for awhile now, but just can't decide on something, most I wouldn't use anyways. But I really dig the soound of a little Tremolo, but don't want to buy something thats just going to collect dust...
I thought about getting a wah, but I just really hate the sound of them, for the most part. They sound ok when used properly on a record, but overall I'm just not impressed with them.

I thought about getting a wah, but I just really hate the sound of them, for the most part. They sound ok when used properly on a record, but overall I'm just not impressed with them. if you're not sure you wanna invest a lot, try the little yellow Danelectro trem--the Tunamelt. good little pedal and it does a nice Fender amp mellow throb as well as heavy stutter. i almost bought one myself but found the EHX Pulsar for a good price and liked it cuz it does extreme freak out sounds. trem's really nice to have to add a bit of variation to yr tone without coloring yr signal a lot like flange or wah does. i've started using it on parts i used to play with phase or flange with because it leaves the notes cleaner. based on yr other posts, it seems like you like "classic" sounds, and you can't get more classic than a trem! another option is a multi-fx. the trem, delays, and reverb on those are almost always good, regardless of price. and they give you a taste of all the other fx so you can upgrade later.

I love the tremelo effect, but the only one I have is the tremelo in my 15 watt Vox, which I only use for practice or home use. So, I'm getting a used Boss TR-2 for cheap and having it modded by Robert Keeley ( www.robertkeeley.com/). I could mod it myself with Brian Wamplers mod ( www.indyguitarist.com) but I think I'm going to have Robert do this one. If you read up on the mod, it also makes a great clean boost with a little sparkle. I can't wait to get it done. I've heard a lot good things about this mod. I get the pedal tonight or tomorrow, and who knows when I'll send it off to be modded.

I have an Alesis Spitfire 60 amp with onboard effects, comes with a footswitch and an expression pedal. Some of the effects suck, but most of them are not too bad. I've got some good sounds dialed in it. I also have a DigiTech RP-50 which I use as a noise gate, EQ, delay, and octave effects. Along with this I have it going into a Bespeco volume pedal which I use for volume swells. I'd like a Crybaby wah someday since the wah in the Alesis sucks. All in all a decent, versatile setup which didn't break the bank and which I can set up quickly. I'd also like to try the new DigiTech Crossroads pedal to try to get that Clapton sound that I really dig.

the Clapton sound is the easiest blues tone you can get. A clean, slightly overdriven amp with a fairly hot clean pickup, ant you're done (of course, your best bet could probably be the Gold Lace Sensors) ! No pedals, no sweat. Cream Clapton tone ? Add a Crybaby and put your amp's presence to maximum.
