howdy y'all. its the same me that i was last time but with a "2" because i hadnt been here in a while and i was cut out and now im back in and couldnt use my old name again . i'm still the one and only arkansas picker. anyhoo, i've wanted a les paul since before dirt, but nowhere near me sells them. until the other day when i went in hastings and saw a les paul back with their guitars and i went and found that it was a : "gibson-baldwin music education Signature Series LP electric guitar in heritage cherry sunburst" for 200 bucks, so i bought it and i love it! i've never owned a les paul before and i was critical of buying one from a movie rental store , but i looked it over and played it and except for a few minor appearance details it was in tip top ship shape order. i was just wondering if anybody else had ever experienced this much fun for this cheap before. please any questions or comments appreciated i was just makin conversation . (by the by: get y'all's minds out of the gutter i wasnt talkin' about that when i was askin about cheap fun)

AP, Your previous named account is still active. No accounts are deleted from this forum once they have posted at least one message (you have 18 under your belt). If you forgot the password (it's been since April), then PM me, and I'll reset it for you. And I moved this to The Coffee Shop, by your own admission, it's just chit-chat. sumgai

OK thanks sumgai, i was lookin for it in guitars and couldn't find it. if its alright with whoevers in charge i'll just keep my new login stuff 'cause i forgot my old one and even though you said that you would redo it for me, thats too much of a headache. the reason that i thought that i had been cut out is because i got an email from y'all about that i hadn't been here in a while and unless i did something then i was out . but no hard feelings i dont care everybody gets busy you know. also i tried every password that i have ever used and none of them worked ,so i just made a new one. is that alright?

a'picker, Of course, no problem. It's your account, have fun. ;D Fun for cheap? Sounds serious........ I just picked up a fretless Jazz Bass, the real thing, not a Squier or anything like that, only a couple hundred bones at the local GC. MIM in 2000, the finish is some shade of white (and more than a little beat up), but it plays and sounds like a custom-built axe costing 5 or 10 times as much, like say, this one. (Two weeks ago I played a similar model from the same builder, it wasn't for sale.... but it got my appetite all worked up, and the next thing you know....... ) I smell another QtB mod coming on......... standby for a picture article, coming soon to a GuitarNutz forum near you! sumgai

cool, but whats a QtB mod? all i have done so far is put black steel knurled knobs on and a metal input jack plate instead of the plastic one.

ahh, how i love fretless basses. i have my replacement p-bass on order, along w/ the bloodwood for the new fretless. AP, QtB is short for Quieting the Beast it is a great article/mod on the original guitar nuts site. its all about shielding your guitar. many here have used it with great results. you can check it out here.Tyler

Tyler, Thanks for covering my back! ;D ~!~!~!~!~!~!~ ap, The shielding thing is necessary when the hum/buzz/noise from your guitar is so easily heard that you wanna throw your axe across the room. Below that threshold, it's up to you to say how much noise is too much, or is still tolerable. For some of us, we do the QtB job just out of habit, we don't even wait to see if it's already quiet enough. (I know I'm that way.) If nothing else, it's a good excuse to take apart a new (to you) guitar and check everything out - hardware isn't loose, broken, or misadjusted; nothing is dirty, greasy, or otherwise schmutzy; the solder joints look good, the wires aren't pinched, crimped, shorting out, or anything like that; etc. etc. you get the picture by now. I also take measurements at this time - the DC resistance of the pups, the resistance and taper of all pots, the value of any tone capacitors, and I make sure that the bridge/strings are truly grounded, not just a few hundred ohms above ground. Even if you don't do this now (playing is a good thing!), you might consider doing it in the future. Perhaps one day you'll end up playing in a venue where the building's electrical system is completely bonkers - really noisy..... or even just a few neon lights next to the stage drive you nutso...... there are lots of reasons to wish for a fully shielded guitar, even if you don't need it right at this moment. I'm confident that others will back me up on this. Just food for thought, you understand. HTH sumgai
