Leo Fender is receiving a technical Grammy award tomorrow, 20090207 (nod to ChrisK dating!). Why this wasn't done 30 or so years ago I have no idea. Official FMIC press releaseAnd his real name is "Clarence"?? Who knew?

One advantage in giving awards to the deceased is sparing the audience an acceptance speech...
But you're right, Leo's had this award coming for a while now.
Congrats Leo, wherever you are...

I did. One of my current co-workers knew him by phone interaction more than a few years back. I'm glad that he's getting this honor (in spite of that whole unfortunate tremo'Leo incident). From the Fender release; "The award will be presented to Fender’s widow, Phyllis Fender, at a special ceremony on Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, followed by an announcement made during the CBS telecast of the 51st annual Grammy® Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles at 8 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 8 (check local listings for air times)." Now, there's some of that there irony stuff.
