What would be a good job/major in the electronics department (ha, sounds like WalMart) that would enable a person to learn about wiring and amp/pedal modding? This has always peaked my interest but haven't investigated it until now. Being close to graduating from high school definitely increases the urgency to find a school/major that would be fulfilling How many of you went to school for electronics? And what was your major/what courses did you take? Thanks in advance!

Well, depending on what you want to do beyond understanding and modifying electronics, I would suggest, depending on your GPA and understanding of math, the following; Associate degree (ASET) or certificate at a technical school or community college in Electronics Technology. This leads to a career as an electronics technician. Bachelor's degree (BET) in Electronics Engineering Technology. This leads to a career as an electronics technician or applications engineer. Bachelor's degree (BSEE) in Electrical Engineering. This leads to a career as an electrical/electronics engineer. I went to college for electrical engineering, but I was preordained for this since my father was an EE and I'd been working in his lab since I was about 12. Math (calculus), physics, English, computer science, math, etc. Again, it depends on what YOU want to be, EE's start (after graduation) at around $60K. If they are really good (or go into management), they can make around two to three times that after some years (it's called maturity). This can be somewhat fulfilling. Aim high.

That's really cool because I'm actually taking Calculus right now (as a Junior). Math has always interested me. Thanks a lot for the info Chris!
