Just in case anyone didn't notice, Fender has put in an across-the-board price increase lately. For example, MF, in their February catalog, has a '65 Twin Reverb RI for $1299. In the March book, it's $1669. Hot Rod Devilles jumped up $200. There are similar price increases on all their guitar and amp lines, except for the solid state amps. And Squier guitars are up about $50 on average. Their dealers must be lighting torches and ready to storm the castle. Middle of a recession, sales probably plummeting, and they raise prices by 25%?? A Deluxe Reverb RI was looking like a good deal to me when it was under $900. Now, over a grand for one- I don't know, maybe it's that 4-digit psychologic barrier, but I'm distinctly less enthusiatic than I was.

Man, the logic in that one escapes me too. The smart money is off to the pawn shop these days anyway, why alienate your resellers and the few potential buyers with a 25% price hike...

What's going on is the Fender is charging for the gas and fuel that went up about 6 months ago. Power prices, gas to haul the lumber, and of course the materials to make that lumber. (Sorry, couldn't resist.) Gibson is next. Martin just raised about 10% 3 months ago, and all the major manufactors are planning the same. Yep, it's going to suck for the poor musician.

And then, Fender comes out with: the New Bandmaster Vintage Modified Head. $650 at MF. I used to have an old Bandmaster head, all beat up but it worked despite scratchy pots and some hum. Bought it used and abused for $75 in about 1971, and sold it for $50 a couple years later. Regretted selling it ever since. I was wondering if Fender was ever going to do a reissue of the Bandmaster, and here it is, with some digital effects thrown in (because, after all, it's "vintage modified". Nonetheless, I'm in love lust.

Yeah, but look at the bright side; with the price increase Fender has been able to publish a catalog this year!
(And BTW, the Road-Worn series are still $720 at PnS during March.)

I was at Guitar Center today - I couldn't believe that Fender's Affinity series Tele that wasn't too bad ( well , moddable at least ) at $169 is now $474 . That makes mine about the only thing I have that still has equity . ;D -lpf3
