I'm an assistant manager in a music store, and I do guitar repairs on the side. The other day the Guitar Gods took pity on me.
"You hath treated Squiers like American Deluxes, and showed the lowly Estaban's mercy and pity. Here is a gift. DON'T SCREW UP!!!"
A gentleman, who was about 300 years old, brought in his 55 Strat. Not a relic, or a reissue, but a REAL 55!!! Beautiful is the only word. One of the last one piece ash bodies, a soft V neck, the ORIGINAL pickups with the 3 way switch, all original except for 3 screws. (I'll post some pics later.)
The issue was a simple: a dirty 3 way switch that took 30 seconds to clean. An hour to slowly and carefully remove the screws and pickguard, but 30 seconds to clean.
Put it to you this way, as much as I despise Strats, I thought this was the reason why so many people love strats. It was magical.
